Canton has been around for a long time. The earliest that I can remember is from the early 90s but I believe they were around before that. German built drivers, very highly regarded for their build quality as well as their sound quality.

The only reason that they never became popular in the North American market was due to the lack of marketing and distributors. Their are much more popular in Europe.

I had seriously consider using them in my car but I couldn't find a local retailer. The other option was buying them of ebay.de which wasn't possible since my German is non-existant.

I think the only guy on this board who ran Cantons is Dukk...

Cantons came out of the same factory as MB Quart in Germany.

I believe Marco has or has used Canton in an install.

My girlfriends dad is a HUGE home audio buff, he has some stuff that would make you cry. He had a set of Canton 4 way towers that he hand built himeself...they had a 3 way comp set off homemade Passives powered by a Krell 2 channel amp, and they also had a 10" sub that was powered by their own amp built into the tower.

VERY good sounding set-up.....cd player was a NAD I believe at the time. Still doesn't beat the Tonsil set-up he has now though

The independant Dukk used to work at sold Canton. They are certainly very nice sounding drivers. I like the fact they are little known except by those who know what a good product they really are. Kinda the 'unsung hero' so to speak.

Tim, I know a local dealer on PEI that has actually been to that factory.

Aside from people that were regular customers of better dealers, I don't think the general public was ever introduced to the brand. Cool products though...

Well, you lucky bastard a german just came along.
Iīm in Germany actually and Canton is a very big company. The became famous with home theater stuff, but were always up with car audio.

The top notch of cantons 2way-system is the QS2.16. Before it used to be the CS2.16, which I had myself installed. The only thing they changes on the QS is new material to the midwoofer-cone and a higher quality crossover. They are very good indeed, but I wouldnīt rank them with systems like boston pro. but for that price you canīt go wrong, especially the base is real good for a midwoofer. visit

to check it out.
My hint if you want a very good german systems (combined with danish tweeters)
VDO Dayton HPC1700
http://www.vdodayton.com/index2_and_...status=n5.aspx

Recommended as one of the worlds top ten compos in SQ. And they sell below 200 US$.

I also have a Canton Subwoofer box. It has a build in subsonic filter and a passive membrane. SQ is amazing.
their RS-series in 3-way-systems are considered one of the best on the market. but who still uses 3-way?
Canton nowadays is the standard in car audio in Germany and sells by huge supermarket chains like wall mart. Thats why their prices nearly dropped by 50%. Thatīs also why the real car audio freaks donīt go for canton anymore, simply because itīs nothing outstanding to have. everyone can get them at a very low price. but still they are good. the latest car-hifi-magazine in germany rated them as winner out of 10 other 300$ systems. like I said they are good, but you have to have a good HU, since higher frequencies tend to be reproduced very loud and clear. not a minus, since itīs a good sign of a quality tweeter & and itīs easy to fix it by EQ.
