WTF Sat Radio Antenna Install

^ Never seen (or heard of since I am only there one day a week) a car come back with a severed antenna or any problem related to an antenna pinch or abrasion so although I agree that it could be a potential problem, in practice it seems to not be a real problem Maybe because the door contacts the weatherstripping from the side and not across the front, directly over the edge of the body.

In the spirit of learning though - who does this differently? Are people filing a groove or something here? I've never seen it done differently. You seem to have a better idea Tim.

Also, I've had magnetic accessories on my cars over the years and have not experienced corrosion. Like I say, I clean the paint to try to not trap grime underneath the antenna but I can see how it would potentially work into the edge. Overall though I totally agree that paint protector strips are a good idea. If nothing else they do add that 'next level' feel to the job. When are they becoming standard issue for the bays?

I still hold the opinion that a paint protection strip is not on the same level as tossing the antenna on the dashpad. But that's just me.

I agree with you on the Ant being on the dash, for the best rep it needs to on the roof the vehicle as high as possible just like it states in the Installation Manual. That said, in my opinion I still beleive that the Reps need to take it to the next level and ensure that they are in comunication with ALL shops and that the info from the manufactor is getting to the right people (sales and install) so when "we" have question they can be answered ASAP.

I strongly believe that this action from the Reps would drastically reduce situations stating at the begining of this thread. This is what I would call a "solution" and can only hope the Reps on the forum hear our pleas.

i always run my wire from roof thru firewall or through trunk using all rubber boots if possible or new hole with grommet and loom if required in firewall applications.

depends on the car and the location of the antenna.

like Mike said though, thru the firewall or trunk usually...........

Depending on the car:

I always tried to mount the Ant on the Roof at the rear o fthe car,
I always tried to go through a third brake light by notching out a little plastic so the cable will not get pinched and weather seal to prevent leaks, if not I tried to run the wire down the window seal then into the car via the brake lights to prevent the wire from being damaged from the trunk.
I always tried to mount the Head Unit via a Braketron Bracket.
I have been using the paint protectors lately and sometimes have double sided the Ant down in request of customers.

Your talking about the clear tape from 3m as the paint protector? Does the stuff come off no problem after, like how do you get it off just heat it up?

Dukk, we run the cable pretty much like you everything unless it's near the back then a brake light. We had not had one problem with the wire getting pinched or cut not once

We always solder all connections at the main ignition wires

Havent used the paint protector stuff for any sat install, never had any problems with corrision or rust or scratches.


I find were installing alot of these units on leased cars and we end up removing them in a year or two and installing on a new vehical, thats why i'm just wondering how easy the 3M comes off


We offer the bracket tron for every install about half the people go the way

My thoughts on the paint protect is that I realy do not like putting anything on paint of a car.

The 3M paint protect we use is the same stuff in use back east to protect the front of the car from rock chips.

A little heat should take it off, be aware of any chips on the paint before applying it.
