Looking at the trend of the industry over the years, you gotta give it up to the INDY's of this world(not just West Coast). Take any well known brand and look back, it started out with the independants raising awareness and brand recognition, we set it up for the box stores.
As the box stores took on those now well recognized names, the independants dropped them and went to other names, and soon those brands got on the map, as this went on, some of the large brands decided maybe they were better off with independants, and once again the pendulum swings.
Soon who knows, mabe those brands will have their own stores.., hmmm like "The Sony Store", and compete directly with their own dealers.(what a joke)

The Sony Store here is shutting down. People like choices. Also one brand stores seem to think they can sell at twice the price that a big box retailer does and still get customers.
When I started at FS, it was great, I was used to working for $10 an hour, not getting paid for overtime (still getting $10 an hour but no time and a half). Sometimes having a paycheck be a week late. And putting up with a terrible boss. I got to FS and my input was asked for, I was treated with respect. Car audio was just starting to get big at FS, new good brands were coming in. There was a great team atmosphere all across Western Canada and particularly in Southern Alberta. Now all the guys I talk to are at other stores, the management make decisions that affect my pay without even asking my opinion. And we are getting product like the OMNIFI and Bazooka Tubes in. I can see a very good time for independants for then next little while, the ones that are already running great are going to see their business grow if they play their cards right.
