Alpine Type-R 12" vs. Boston Acoustics 12" G2?

I found both for the same price at a store yesterday, and the guy recommended the Boston over the Alpine. Said it had cleaner bass and was pretty much equivalent in terms of SPL.
Can anyone agree or argue against that?

I would go boston because the alpine is known to release the surrounds from the cone ...... I like the sound of boston better imo but its up to you

I havent had much experience personally with either sub. However I have been following different opinions and reviews on both subs, as I was considering running the new Boston G5 subs.

Type R's are a very slippery slope, the older model was a proven bang for the buck sub that performed surprisingly well in most applications.
However, the newer version is getting very mixed opinions, partially due to the new surround. Although based on the price if they perform similar to the older model you cant go wrong.

The new Boston G series subs are getting very good reviews and seem to be a great product for the money. A couple guys I know have either heard the G series, or had them installed and I dont recall anything bad being said about them. From what I have been hearing they are a very efficient and responsive sub, so fairly versatile in terms of sound quality, But also have some pretty surprising SPL capabilities.

For an all around daily driver, alot of people love subs like these. Very affordable, and very versatile. Can listen to music without the "one note wonder" syndrome, and still be able to put smiles on peoples faces by rattling their brains a little. I would reccomend choosing the one thats most affordable for you, and matches your amp the best. But it also wouldnt hurt to look at things like enclosure reccomendations on both subs either.

I am currently running the 12" Type R (rated 500watts RMS). Its a decent sub for the buck, its held up well and provides decent SQ when not pushed too hard. Its currently running at 800watts RMS daily and no problems so far. The type R will also hit low and hard, enough to vibrate the dash while driving.

How wide are these surround failures on the new Alpine Type-R model?
