Better to go with 1 or 2 ohm amp?

I am gonna be getting a duel 1 ohm per coil sub should I get a 1 or 2 ohms. I am gonna be running the sub at .5 ohms but with imp rise if I went with 2 ohms I would get the most out of the amp if my ohms get high from the imp rise. This is for competing a single sub setup. I wan told by one pro to go with the 2 ohms because after imp rise it may become almost 3 ohms higher anyways without knowing. I just wanted a few other peoples advice.

depends on the amp 100%

Going with the soundigital sd5000d.1 if that helps. Offered both in 2 and 1 ohm.

In that case, I don't think it really matters... both versions are optimized for their respective loads.

Just read the .5 part.... with SD you might want the 1 ohm version.

Yeah 1 ohm would probably be the best choice. Although, if you have measured your rise already then maybe the 2 ohm would be better, but your rise might not be that high so for safety sake I'd do 1 ohm. Give Murilo a shout and see what he has to say.

Oh, and excellent choice btw lol

Father Yuli 02-07-2011 06:10 PM

1 ohm in that case

madwarrior 02-07-2011 06:12 PM

No I do not know exactly what my imp rise is. Wish I did would help out a lot. But it's only for burps. But I rather not blow up my amp lol. Tough choices

madwarrior 02-07-2011 06:14 PM

I was thinking 1 ohm as well and since 3 people also said that that's 4 to 1 lol so I think I will go with 1 ohm.

u can not know your impedence rise and apply it to everything.

rise will change with power applied

SD amps dont like to be wired below rated load. ID advise against it. IF your going .5ohms GL, some have done ok at .7 but dont do .5

Ether wire your sub at 2 ohms and get the 2 ohm version or get 2 2500 or 2000s and run one per coil at 1 ohm if their one ohm stable
