body panel flex-expert answers please
I am wondering about Body Panel Flex. I would like to know what exactly causes it and will tuning to the resonant frequency of the vehicle cause panels to flex more or less? Thanks

Oscillations in the air, typically caused by a subwoofer that is moving said air within the vehicle, changes the atmospheric pressure experience by any given point on the vehicle. Those changes in pressure are enough to move the shell in which the air is held in, in the case of car audio, body panels. Think of it like when you hold a piece of wax paper to your mouth and make noise, causing it to vibrate.

To help reduse the body panel felxing and vibrations add some sound deadener. There's a ton of companies out there that make really good product. Take your time, do some research and buy the stuff that will fit best into your budget and for your application.
I think frequencies well above and below the vehicle FS will effect the bodypanels more aggressively than closer to the FS of the vehicle. Good luck |
what i have done, depending on vehicle is to dynamat every panel of the vehicle.. twice for thinner panels.. then any large flat surface i place 1/2 inch plywood with pl600. this makes sure there is no panel vibration.. a good place is the roof..

I did the same but used 1/4" MDF, then covered that with deadner....It "lowered" my SPL by 1.2dbs. Music sounded much better but it ****ed my SPL.
