box - box inside a box design ?

anyone done a box inside a box design......ie: a burp box, inside a large box, open to the cabin, kinda like a cave, sealed off from the back of the car......

I know......try it and let us know!!! haha

i never have, just wondered if u had, in my opinion with a sub up, port back i think there would be rex-like reactions no?

just sayin!!

You mean a bandpass box?......

Garvok 03-09-2011 10:08 PM

ya i guess....haha............... more like buildin a wall set-up, minus the loading wall, front baffle, ports and such......basically the top, bottom, sides and back in a wall set-up...just no wall......than place the actual secondary sub box inside and tune!!!

just a random idea i had at werk today......i do that alot!!

I don't really see the purpose or any advantages to it. What you'd end up with is basically a walled off situation with hidden sub(s). It'd be cool to see done, but I don't see any advantages to it. I'd imagine getting proper tuning would be a bitch, also if you ever had any problems, getting at the sub(s) and wiring would be a pain.

Edit : Sorry, I took your idea and went a step furthur, but only because it would make sense to. With a uniform shape and size to your trunk, you could, in theory, tune your 'trunk', basically turning it into a bandpass box. Or you could port your 2nd box, if you were going to do it, you might as well do it right. Usually when building a box you don't factor in the fact that your trunk and car in general will change affect your tuning because it is too difficult to calculate, but if you were to build a box around your box, you would have some more control over tuning ability. That's what I meant by tuning it would be a pain in the ass. But if you were just making a burp box anyway, and you were thinking of going that route, you could just turn it into a backwards bandpass box. Use your secondary box as the sealed portion, and the outer box as the ported, with the ports facing into the car. What the effect would be, I have no idea, but it sounds cool, in theory.

ya im tryin to get around to puttin them up.....the box and stuff is done....but than i had this brainfart about the inside out box.....and got me thinkin......i dunno....its loud....on only the 1 amp right now...maybe by sat u can see the progress......

its a 10 cube box, 2 8" sonotubes, tunin @ 52hz right now....but thats gonna change.....the sub is fully loaded, the power now is only 2.5 k.......not sure where im goin with power yet...that SD 16K is lookin good but so's the 24K

all this in a 91 civic HB.......not quite a REX i know......all kinds of flex and loss issues....ie: rear windows and such!!!

Father Yuli 03-11-2011 12:14 AM

flex is loss?

Garvok 03-11-2011 07:28 PM

thats not what i meant......i meant im gettin all kinds of flex.....and my windows out back are popin open and im losin.......hence my inside out box desing idea!!!

and since my pockets seem empty since my bike build got finished, im goin with either 2 powerbass 4000's, or 2 audiopipe 3000's.....its gonna have to do for now.....
still should see a low 50 fer sure on those!!
