cerwin vega stroker
I have a CV Stroker 18d2 and a mmats amp that is modified to 2200 watts rms. First of all how hard do you figure she'll hit. And how many farads should I be looking for in a cap? Also what guage speaker wire would be best for my stroker?:smokin:

1/0 gauge power wire and ground at least one run, if its over like 18 feet consider 2 runs ;)
do the big 3 upgrade ( search it on this forum) don't bother with a cap. as for "mad Deebees" its mostly in the install and trial and error with moving the box around inside the car and port length for tune. as for speaker wire, 8 gauge if possible otherwise at least 12 ( try to keep it short) |

over long distance you get voltagedrop 2 runs ( if your serious about power ) is worth it imo, but also make sure you have strong good clean grounds.

Caps are overated but are also good for checking your constant voltage if you have one with a read out on it, so if you really want one, good rule of thumb is 1 farad per 500 watts.

Sorry I have never heard that rule of thumb, I recommend trying a different thumb

like fracl said sorry to just hop in on this but if your "thumb" states you should have 1 farad for every 500 watts....
*1 farad means that it will support 1000 watts rms.You dont include your speakers/subwoofers when calculation a capacitor.You only worry about how many watts the amp is. " (if im not allowed to use links to other sites let me know) And if you check that site, you'll notice exactly what you said "a good rule of thumb is one farad per 500 watts of power. i have always suggested this and havent had a problem yet." |

Capacitors help take hits during times of peak current draw. They store energy and when the line voltage sags, they release it. What this means is, if you aren't producing enough current to begin with, a capacitor may actually become even more of a burden on your charging system (same story with a 2nd battery). |
Yeah haha kind of a dumb thing to say but I was dead tired last night and found that site, and my mind being on car audio I was thinking more watts per anything would be better.
Thanks for the reality check haha :eyes: Also would that mean 500 watts peak per 1 farad? or 500 rms? |
