db drag cd

I got one of these dB Drag cd's that is full of test tones at various hz, 20-80hz
do I play through those and the one that is the loudest is what my sub is tuned to?
I was at the dB Drag event today at the FX Audio store here in Edmonton. Fist time to such a thing, amazing how many of the competitors are just kids. I'm not into SPL like they are where I will build some huge ugly box. Not surprising I came in dead last with a score of 129.1 dB.
I'd rather find a SQ competition, come in last in that and ask around how to better the system.

wut were you using? tone and equipment?

wiltshire559 08-19-2006 07:57 PM

what do you mean tone and equipment

my system is in my sig

it doesn't matter, I'd only need to play the loudest hz if I was in another dB drag event and I'm not planning on doing one of those again.

Oh, my bad, didn't see your sig. And I meant what tone was the loudest for you?

I haven't tried it yet, just was wondering if thats how you figure out what the sub is tuned to. I'm thinking yes it is, makes sense.

Alright, I just tried the various freq, I'd say between 50-60Hz its the loudest. I don't have a term-lab mic so can't tell for sure.

Ya, I agree, that makes the most sense. The hard part is getting a hold of a trusted db meter. Over here people are like, "subwoofer?" haha so I am having a hard time finding any place close with a meter. I had only one db drag race this year within 150 miles of my town. It was 120m away. I guess you could say I live in a hick town :p.

If you choose to play again tell the guy placing the mike that your new/ learning. What I do for those newb's is get there sweet spot after running an sweep. Then play that tone/ burp. I'm more into SQ myself yet do enjoy the Dark side. FX may have an event before the season closes so try it again. Even hunt me out in either an old mini or an green explorer. It more fun when you get the hang of it.

were you at the event I was just at? there were a few exploders, one had a kid running the system because he was too young to drive the vehical

so the sweeps last long enough to get a good reading, like it has to hold a note for a few seconds at least, not be constantly changing
