Just fiberglass on its own ontop of metal won't do very much. If you are having a problem with your roof or side panels resonating or vibrating, there are solutions.
If your panels are 'ringing' or 'vibrating', then good old deadliner will cure it. If your panels are actually being expanded and contracted by the pressure inside the vehicle, and are visibly moving in and out, then you need to increase the structure somehow. An inexpensive way is to bolt the panels together using re-bar... but its not very aesthetic. Maybe you could weld in thick steel reinforcement panels, that would surely help.
I suppose if you created a complete fiberglass 'shell' inside the car and it was thick enough (3/4" or more) and reinforced it properly, you could increase spl dramatically (depends on how weak your ride is to start with).
I wouldnt fiberglass the metal directly, it will eventually seperate and you will have the rattle from hell.
