help designing ported box

anyone care to lend a hand in designing a ported box for 2 10" Kaption SPL subs?
these are the box recommendations from kaption
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...aption-SPL.jpg
and more info about them can be found in the manuel
http://www.kaptionaudio.com/manuals/SPLManual.pdf
id like a slot ported box and clearly the SPL ported box :P

They are alright just make sure you have at least .75 inside after port and sub displacement. Also i would go with a slot port, aswell as common chamber.

ya i want a slot ported box instead of the round ports, what do you mean common chamber? u mean single chamber?

They share the airspce, they are not seperated (seperate boxes).

I'v got a90 cavi with a slot ported box 4 two 12's it does 146 and change I'm pulling that box out and going with one 15 its 1" mdf fibre glass resine its a front facing box thats sealed off from the trunk you can kinda see it in my pic PM me 4 details

are you going full output or do you want some sort of sound quality?
the box volume they're suggesting is a very good middle ground but if you're willing to trade some space and sound quality you could gain maybe 2 or 3 db between 40 and 60 hz. Loose some punch for a bigger shove.

Either way you should consider making a rectangular port and at least lightly flaring the ends. The added circumference and smoothed transition of the flaring will cut turbulance and your port will produce more musical sound than "chuff".

i like output:smokin:
someone suggested this
3 cubes internal, make the face 13 - your port will be 4 inches wide, 6 inches deep and it would be 10 1/2 tall - should get you tuned to 35 hertz.

that'll be a fairly big tradeoff of sq and transient for spl, but that's what you're looking for. I just punched it into top box and it looks like a fair to good sub for a vented enclusure, so good choice there. You could go with a smaller box and/or tune differently for a bit better transients and still get near the same output. The curve I'm getting is showing basically just a port with a speaker running it, so the phase and delay are really high meaning slightly sloppier notes from kick drums. this box will however make a lot of noise at 35 hz for any given power level, so if output is your goal I'd say this is probably as far as the average person would be willing to hurt sq for spl: max output without being completely un-musical.

I'm not sure where your port equations come from though, to tune that box to 35 hz you're going to need closer to 14.5 inches of length at 4*6. 4*6*10.5 would have been closer to 40 hz.

a decade ago I built a simalar setup with 6 10's in a hundai that played for musically, but I had a cd of songs that hit the right note on it and made everyone's eyes pop. I should note that it was built with cheap remanufactured subs though, not quality units.

the box suggestion jsut came from a random person off a different forum, im jsut trying to get some suggestions if its a good box or not...im horrible when it comes to designing ported boxs but i can build them good lol

so u suggest a port of 10.5Hx4Wx14.5D and about 3 cubes of space? well 3 cubes plus port displacement im guessing

rorybreaker 03-01-2008 01:27 AM

it was approx, I was just warning you it lookes suspect. I don't have a displacement on that sub, so I was near 14.5 on a 4*6 port with 2 flared ends, in a box 3 cubes without any speaker displacement.

do you want a suggestion for an exact box design near this one? if so I can make one lickedy split, so can others here.
