Help with spl.

Question 1 ---
I have two 15" kicker cvrs that are rated 500wrms and 1000wpeak. They are hooked up to an infinity 1200.1 which is 1300wrms. I calculated it out that I should be getting almost exactly 1000wrms at volume 30/40. Is it safe for me to turn it up to 40/40 when measuring db's? It would send the subs 150W over the recommended watts to each sub. I am guessing each tone needs to be held out for 5 seconds? Do you guys think it would be safe or unsafe for me to feed my subs this much watts for 5 seconds at a time.

Question 2 ---
If that is safe and I give the subs a rest are the subs permanetly harmed or is it kindof like a cool down then I can crank it up again for another measurement and not be scared of frying the vc's?

Question 3 ---
When doing db measurements do I turn all of my bass boosts up including on the headunit and on the amp?

I am guessing (and hoping) that I will hit over 130 but I will see when it happens. Thank you.

If you dont hit 130 I would be supprised.Set the gain on your amps so the subs are still linear and not flopping around.Do not use bass boost you shouldnt need to.

don't turn the volume to 40/40 keep it at about 3/4 volume.
when I had a bass boost i used it (to each his own)
give the subs and amp a cool down period before going up to the mic again.

you should get 130 but depends on the box and car but that is an easy goal to get

FIRST....Never turn your system to FULL.. Might sound louder but your distorting,Distorting cause VC's the burn(BAD...)
Second OVER powering your subs won't hurt them Near as bad as UNDER powering......Underpower makes you distort.
Get a "PORTED" box leave ALL your BASS at ****,Never turn you bass up CAUSE that'll make you distortand well we ALL know where thats going.
Just go to a show and watch how the guys that have been doing it for a while,Do it.

definately never use bass boost, it may sound louder with regular music and such but thats just how you percieve it and will definately not be louder in a competition. the best way to find the proper volume is realistically to use a mic and see where the numbers stop going up even though batteries get drained and such. or you can listen for when each volume stops making a noticeable increase in loudness. as for powering the subs, you sholdnt have anything to worry about if they are wired correctly, those subs should be able to take alot more power than there rms rating.

seeing as how yo are in minnesota, i not sure where to send you...but i would take it into a shop that does spl....and has a meter

it is not just about setting your gains or bass boost, etc. it has more to do with box design and placement of the box.

youds can tell you that he went up a few dbs but just sitting in the right spot.

we specialize in spl but we are so far that you couldnt imagine.

we safely used to put 3x the amount of clear power to our speakers. they were rated at 1500 rms and we hooked up 3 - 1500 watt rms amps to it. it was very precise things that we were doing. so to answer you...yes you can put that amount of power also....but i would not recommend it as it is a very fine line between getting louder and being crazy.

if you feel daring enough...only do it for small amounts. 3 second burps....but no more than 3/4 volume as after that it turns into alot of distortion.
