Horn Enclosure

Just stumbled across the idea on google but couldn't find a lot of info on calculating and building such an enclosure. Has anyone got experience or information on this concept?

I'm gonna be building a new enclosure soon and would love to try this over the everyday ported enclosure.

The first thing you have to ask yourself is: Do I drive a cube-van?

Seriously - for the size, complexity, and results, you are better off with a large ported box.

Im guessing you mean a large flared port? Horns are huge.

I could calculate it for you or show you how but like mentioned above it will be huge. This is simply because of the wavelength you are dealing with. A quarter wavelength of the lowest frequency is considered the shortest a horn should be. At 30 Hz this would be about 2.8 meters and the mouth width would be slightly less. I toyed with the idea of "cheating" in SPL with a trailer'd horn but I was hodged by the rules.

I see the problem in my logic here! Was hopping to get something like this into a Mazda3, Haha!

If you could still calculate it and include a little explanation on how you did it that would be greatly appreciated. It may not make it into my car, but it'll definitely be used in my home theater!

This guy built his home theater on top of a pair of horns, for stereo of course They were so long he had to wrap them. Gives you an idea of the scale of bass horns. Google Tractrix Horn Calculator or Exponential Horn Calculator. They are a start for getting into horn design. I have the Martin J King MathCAD worksheet for horn design. Post your sub's paramters and I'll see what works.
