Inverting sub?

Inverting sub?
Will inverting my subs have a negative effect on SPL?!? Trunk isn't that big so i want to make the most of the box size and not have the subs (2 12" RF T2) take up much volume inside the box.
Also, all you do is hook up negative to positive and vice versa? i have never tried this way before. thanks.

I have never inverted any of my subs although the idea arised a few times and I think it looks cool. I am almost positive that spl will not be harmed and I am pretty sure that you hook up the wires like you would regularly (pos to pos and neg to neg). If I am wrong about hooking the wires up, well then I learned something important today .
I find it funny how all of my friends are scared of this. I have installed all of my friends systems (seriosly everyone of my friends that have a system was installed by me, haha, i take pride in that fact ) and every time I mention having the sub mounted facing into the box they flip out saying it won't work. I am pretty sure that it won't change a thing. If I am wrong, srry, haha but I am pretty sure that is correct.

i have had many systems in the past and mounted my stuff inverted no problem i even have 3 15's before with one sub mounted normal and everyone loved it , there is a trick to doing what i did u can pm me on that. But as for SPL that would all depend on the air space needed for the subs , if u are restriced for space i would invert them if your box is too big then i would stick them in normaly. Have fun

inverting your subs will change the volume of the box a bit and technically will make a difference on your spl ;o
as for the wiring, wire it normaly unless your running some inverted and some normal then u ave to et th phase right bla bla

so i guess other than for space ..what are the advantages or disadvantages to doing this ?
also i notice some people have the sub facing the back seat and other have it facing out (towards the trunk)...is this jus personal pref. or does it make a difference ?

No, I think the only reason why you would switch up the pos and neg is if you had one sub facing into the box and the other sub facing out of the box. In that case I am sure that you would hook the wires up normally on one sub and opposite on the other subwoofer so that the cones are moving into the box and out of the box in the same direction at the same time.

When you invert the woofer you have to wire it up positive from the amp to negative on the sub and negative from the amp to positive on the sub. I invert subs a lot in my custom installs and that's how I wire them and it works fine.
