Am I the only one who thinks that a leather interior would be louder then a cloth one?
Just looking for some thoughts and opinions.

you know thats a good thought i'm thinking leather would be louder

depends...what is leather? and how solid is it? loose stitched leather (back of seat) will flutter and deflect as cloth will allow pressure to pass through it...

The A Team 06-04-2005 09:24 PM

I have never seen lose leather on a seat. But because leather doesn't breath like cloth I think it would be a better loading wall. Plus it is a whole lot smoother, equaling less air drag, and better velocities. Am I correct or just dreaming

sorry to burst your bubble but in most vehicles with a leather option it is only the seat fronts that are leather. the seat backs and sides and sometimes even the rear seats are a vinyl dyed to match the leather.

Im guessing it doesnt matter, if there is a difference then im guessing its a very small one.

Kinslayr 06-06-2005 04:16 PM

And leather in the back seats of a GTP asre perforated leather

Coffeyman 06-07-2005 11:17 AM

i ws thinking about that too...in theory, it should be louder because it won't suck up the sound waves...but i don't know how much of a difference it would actually make...

...but i can remember there was this guy at world finals that tried to use plastic seats in his car - he was REALLY pissed when ray and the other judges dq'ed him for trying to use them. i guess they would have been pretty good at raising the spl...

mine are all leather all around

what your seats are made out of makes no diffrence whatsoever. Unless you have Oak seats! then your spl increases by about 8%. Also you have to have a horizontal air flow of 56knots through the pasenger window to the dash of the vehcile!

Well I know for a fact that there is an audible difference in the way a stereo SOUNDS and the way that the higher frequencies reflect off of leather. I actually went from leather to cloth and it actually cut the harshness of the tweets down, so it would be interesting to test and see if and how much of a difference it makes...

The shape and position are much more important then fabric when it comes to SPL.

I never thought what kind of interior you had, matter of what your numbers would be.

The A Team 07-18-2005 04:37 PM

I think someone should do some testing.

I still think that leather will be louder.
