Poor spl results

So, this weekend I went out to a sound comp. I had expected better results than I achieved, but still had a lot of fun, and met a bunch of good people from the area.

Here is what has been done.

200A Alternator, 1/0 Big Three, 4/0 power cable, a Group 31 under the hood and a large interstate deep cycle in the trunk.

Im running a Fusion NV2500 Amp, 4 Power Series JBL 1022 subs, in this box here.

I hit 140.1 @35hz.

Last year in my old sealed box I hit 141 at 35hz.

This is what I have now,

The box is tuned to 32hz. I am disappointed, I thought for sure with the upgrades it would have been a better score than last year. However, the score was worse...

Any ideas?

MOAR PORT AREA!

Tuning higher will also get you louder, but you give up some of the lower notes.

Welcome to CCA bro. I'm the Windstar from that comp. Send me some maximum measurements and I'll play with the figures for ya.

What model number are the subs again?

It was nice to meet you by the way. Any chance you are the one that has the cover for my dB Drag CD? I got the CD, someone forgot to return the case. lol

ALSO, don't forget they placed the meter in a messed up place (upper right hand corner 2"x2"). I only did 145.4 at that show and did 147.6 at a comp on Sunday. A lot of that low score was crappy mic placement.

4/0 wire is actually bad. no joke. try to replace it with some 1/0 instead.

needs higher tuning for good spl.

Thanks for the welcome!

I agree with you on mic placement, however it was the same position as last year.

The subs are JBL model P1022. I could likely pull off a box similar to the one fox_racin4 has in his grand am, as for the dimensions, the current box I have is as tall as it can be. I could maybe go slightly wider and slightly longer, probably do upto 38x33, anything larger, I'd have to try my mad skillz building in the car and Im quite sure it would be a disaster.... But I might be willing to give it a shot.

It was great meeting you as well, that was the most fun part, hanging out and messing around with the cars!

4 ga or 4/0ga? lol

And how tall including the subs. Whats the tallest you can slide in from the inside. You might be able to go with a design like Dereks. Would be MUCH MORE efficient too.

Hell, Derek (Fox_racin4) has another box that might just fit right in for sale. Looks almost like the one you saw on Sat. Send him a PM or send me a email and I'll forward it to him.
