now i hope i can explain this properly

every one seems to like this crx box

in that box the ports are under the driver, how does that help compared to say the ports being along side the driver?

also how does aiming the ports in different directions compared to the driver effect out put?

The ports are under the driver because it allows the pressure to force the air out a little more linearly with less cancelation. A properly built SPL CRX has a lot of wood inside to make it work properly. Straight ports are also better than angled, and aeroports seem to make significant gains.
There are a lot of tricks that can be done to the inside though.

i think that what you need to under stand is sound. sound can bend around obsticles and thru some mediums, but is prefers to go straight out. if you make a port with soft coners and keep the inside of the box smooth . it will allow the sound to come out smooth

i would round as many edges as possible, get rid of hard corners and soften up all square looking pieces. At least that way you don't get any port noise, or any un-needed hang ups of sound. One of the best looking slot ports that i have seen(i haven't seen to many) is rob VO's. just by looking into his port you can tell that he rounded the boxes interior to accomodate the flow of air and sound. That's why areoports were made.

Picture this(maybe this thought can help)
ever water the lawn. And the stream coming out of the hose is the same shape of the hose? And then you put you finger on it and the water sprays every where . sort of the same concept. the sound needs to come out of that port and will contour to the port. if there is a 90 degree angle that it needs to pass thru , it will limit it's ability to come out of that port(bringing your number down) but if you accomodate the ease of that sound coming out(rounded edges) it will increase your score, sound, quality, etc. now this isn't the only way, and i'm sure that others can help you with their opinion, i'm just trying to help you with it's shape.as far as where to put the port you have to think that that sound wil start at the speaker and go back wards(inside the box) so you want to picka spot that will make the wave come out of the box without having to fight it's way out. you may not hear a difference with it being off by 2 inches but where you would tell the difference is if you wanted to compete with it. in spl it may be as little as .2 db or as much as 3 db, but in may be the difference bewteen winning and losing. Hope this helps. i do know that the nicer and cleaner the wave , the nice and cleaner your sound is gonna be. try not to restrict it's flow coming out. accomodate it
pm guys like rob vo should you want an expert opinion. he hits mighty loud with 2 - 10's and his box and port is pretty much perfect
