Resin.....Box?

My question is this, does it actually help to resin the inside of the box, and for what purpose? I already went to the trouble of doin 2 heavy coats, but was curious if I just wasted my time? I'm runnin 2 15's in a 16 cube box, tuned to 44hz, and hittin 143.2 on 150 watts!!! sweet

What amp? Curious

Personally I know that flex=loss.. If you eliminate the flex, then your gaining :d..Just my 2 cents :d

resin with not only make the inside stronger but if done right will make a slicker surface for the air to travel.

stiffer box doesnt always mean more spl.

resin

what amp? - I'm using el-cheapo I think its actually 180 watts rms 4 ohm, its also stappable, but havent got another yet!

as for the resin I figured that, when I put it in I was careful, and yes it came quite nice, very smooth!!!

resining your box makes for 2 things......it makes a non porous surface...and it makes it harder to add layers because of imperfections on the surface. once you have resined...it will be harder to make changes....although not impossible.

resin on aflat surface does not provide for a stiffer surface.....resin that is 1 inch think might....but it sounds like you just put a thin coast of resin.....if you box is 5/8 or 3/4 thick.then i dont think that resin will do much....as the box must be very.......flexible......already. i dont think itll do much until you start making some dramtic changes.....changes that will strengthen the box......changes that have nothing to do with resin.

remember that it is that porous surface that allows for two layers of wood to join better....you just made it harder to join a second layer....

porous

ya i figured that, but my box is doubled up all the way round and the baffle is 4 layers thick, and in the future if I decide its still flexing I guess I could beef up the outside right? there is still room! but somewhere along the line I thought that a little flex could actually improve your score, of course pure guess work, no way to calculate it or the results! or what!

If you find it flexing you could use the threaded rod through it with stiffening plates on inside to keep box rigid under extreme pressures of our search for more SPL :D

Actualy there is 3 things that resining you box will do if done right can be really smoth which better air flow and It does strengthen the box you don't need one inch of it to do so my box is prof of it Pat you should know that you have seen it but one good thing it does is if there is the chance it might get exposed to the eliments example MDF is like a sponge when it comes to water resin will prevent it from absorbing water/moisture

resin/fiberglassing of the box i don't think would increse your SPL at all, or very much for that matter, but with a well done sealing job, with the proper glue, and silicone (if needed) you shouldn't need it, but if you want to http://www.canadiancaraudio.com/onli...cons/icon6.gif
