Well, after returning from the Cartunes Bash for cash on the 6th of this month, I really did wonder what the heck was going on with the meter? It was a brand new Audiocontrol model number #can't remember. Anyways, the mic is brand new as well and seems to be calibrated properly as far as what the readings were.

Now, I noticed on 75% or more of the cars were reading 2-3 DB's higher in the last 5 seconds of their runs regardless of the frequesncies they were hitting. Very strange indeed.

I noticed on my own first run that my Db went up by 2 during the last 5 seconds at 53 hz. On my own RTA, my 'sweet-spot' has always been 49 hz with my current set-up.

My buddy wnet through and peeked out 3 DB above his 'normal' reading and his frequency was 5 hx higher than his normal 'sweet-spot'.

To test my theory that the meter/mic was inadvertantly increasing readings during the last 5 seconds of the run, I ran the first 25 seconds silent and ran my single 49 hz tone in the last five seconds of my run. It worked ! I managed to beat my first run by 1.4 DB's and took home 1st in the 0-150 sq.inch class.

My final of the day was 143.9 with a single S12L7.

Anybody experience this before?

when testing at home i found this. it takes about 3-5 seconds for the cabin to pressurize just that much. for instance i tried a 1 second burp, and it didn't compare to a 5 second burp. so what i think that most of you experienced is that you were trying to burp for around 5-7 secconds and you did better than just changing the frequency and /or playing music that moves around and doesn't stay in one place. usually the guys that went up tried one note then another then another. until hey you found the loudest note. so then you tried it the second round and you just hit that sweet note only, your system was cool, your subs were cool, your batts were charged. so personally, i don't think it's the mic. you just happened to find your spot in the first round and then burped it properly in the second and increased you score.looks like an anomely, but it's actually your better judgment kicked so you waited for 25 seconds and burped. instead of doing 30 seconds of jumping around; 30 seconds of heating up your amps and subs.etc.

I know the new termlab's take a few seconds to kick in to get the score.. but I dunno about audiocontrol..?!

I like your theory Pat, but after watching closely, I noticed that almost ALL of the readings spiked at exactly 25 seconds (or when the read-out started to flash). There was very limited peaking at any other time - just the usual .5 increases as each contestant came closer to their sweet spot.
There were no spikes half way through or 10 seconds through or after the cabin pressurized as you say.
Also, my car was very hot. Hotter than the first round and generally, in most events (like say 80%), people tend to go down in score rather than increase.
I am not complaining though as I won 1st in my class! Just an observation.

i know that guys like me, ray and erick(maybe erin, the dude that hit 151.7alpine setup) stayed in thesame spot. and they gave a burp in the last 5 secs. you might have come across an anomely but. it's great that you took advantage it it and won. my score went down .2 db. so did ray's , .2 db.

Well, all of us did very well indeed. I felt a little bad for Danny though because they didn't let him go a second time. Oh well, you win some and you lose some !

Oh, BTW, its Aaron Sharma with the Talon. He's a Good guy!

Did you see the pics Pat? LOL...thanks for holding my door!

Captions on the Cartunes page would have been nice. nothing like looking a pictures of people I don't know

Funny - I had zero knowledge of this show and I try to keep an ear open. Dealers should publicize more.
