I'm running two Planet Audio FU15-4's which are dual 4ohm 1500watt/3000 peak and am wondering which amplifier configuration to go with.
4-Ma HK798 at 800rms 4ohm or 1-Ma HK-802SX at 4400rms at 1 ohm

Is there any electrical advantage to using multiple small amps on each coil as apposed to 1 big amp subs wired in parallel?

I would go with the single large amp, since it will be easier to install and if you decide to go with two amps in the future, you can add another. As long as you have the same total amount of wire going to the large amp (in other words 4 times as much as would go into each small amp) there is no advantage to the small amps; the small amps would actually most likely be less efficient because there is still power going to the FETs even when the amplifier is producing no output.

since we're in the SPL section switch the subs for the dual 2 coils it wont ruin you with impedance rise the way the dual 4's will and if you're goin to buy the MA amps go for the 4000d instead! it will actually out do the 4400 a/b amp especially if you are running it of a regular 12 volt system

oh and I frogt to mention for SM1-2 you are allowed only 2 amps or 4 strapped amps so the class will not allow you to run one amp per coil as the CONDUCTOR rule states for that class only 4 cunductors total, meaning one positive and one negative per sub x 2 subs

if you go with smaller amps you run them at a higher load allowing you to dampen the woofers better(great for controlling the woofer). it is also very easy to f##k it up and kill a coil because you have to precisely adjust all amps identically. if not youll create an immense amount of heat and kill them instantly.

but one large amps is simple and easy and you are basically making a similar signal go thru all coils and not have to worry about adjusting more than one amp in unicine. this method will lower the amps ability to dampen(control the woofer).

its agive and take. your better off with one larger amp and have easier settings if you are a beginner. KISS(keep it simple Stupi.....well you know the rest)

Now that I have chosen a Clif Designs CDX20A, and am trying to stay in the Street Max 1-2 class. What size alt. will I need to keep that one poor battery alive?
Some say the CDX20A will not perform well with one battery period.
Any ideas?

I would get a realy nice battery first and then get a big alt that way u would be ontop of your game if u want to compete at a national level

like the other member said.. get a BIG battery... group 31 optima Yellow top is a very good battery and not excessively expensive... and will keep you within the 800 cubic inch regulation for dB drag Street Max 1-2 class.. the other is to make sure you have multiple runs of 1/0 form the battery power and ground to ensure minimal voltage drop on the power wire itself

Alternator won't help you at all in street max. Buy a hawker 1700/2150, optima group 31, or if you can afford it, a Northstar NSB-90 and you will be fine.
