sub positioning on the box

So I want to do a fairly bigtime setup in my 95 saturn wagon, here's a pic of the hatch area with a 15" sub in there that's my buddy's.

What I want to do is run 3 18's.

My question regards phase issues.

I can only physically fit 2 of them rearfiring, and the 3rd would have to be upfiring. I'd place it as close to the back of the box as possible.

FWIW, and sub sounds like crap in my car when it's up or forward firing.

Obviously I'm trying to go for high SPL capability and a *little* bit of visual impact as well

How would that third sub and affect SQ and SPL compared to having just 2?

Thanks guys!

why not do up firing and side firing into the passanger side? or do all 3 facing back in a wedge style?

Creed, I don't have enough depth in the hatch area to do that, only working with about 25 inches or so.

By a wedge style box, do you mean something like " \_/ " ?

That would cut down on my box volume a lot.
I'm dealing with about 8cf right now, and I NEED it all.

The sub is a 15" MAW15 from www.mach5audio.com
Great sub, and I'm really liking the sound of it too. Handles 750watts RMS from a MTX rt2400x in it's 2.4cf sealed box like a champ.

Talking to prolifik right now

the set up u are thinkin might be loud, but not SPL loud. way too much cone area for that car and for the trunk space to make a good box.

If you mean the "bass for blocks" kinda bass, I'm definetely looking for that. I dunno if I'll ever get it metered, but why not.

I don't get how you could have too much cone area.... isn't the point of a SPL vehicle to try to get as much area movement in as small of a space as possible?

80% of spl is in the box, not the amount of cone. if your subs are too big for the space you have its pretty hard to design a good, efficient box. but yah, yours would be 'bass for blocks'.
