What are your thoughts on Stetsom amps?

If you have experience with them post here.

sx4life 01-31-2008 10:45 PM

LOL am I not correct in saying that the twins ran stetsom?? they seem to do pretty damn good with them

JordyO 02-01-2008 06:42 AM

It would depend on the class you're running with them and the model you're using.

See, the problem is that they make too many different versions of each amp. They have the 16v V7KD, 12v V7KD and now there is apparently the 12v Turbo V7KD. On top of that each of those comes in a version that is optimised for either a 1 Ohm or 2 Ohm load.

My team got our hands on a few last season and at first there were nothing but problems because they were always going in to protect. It turns out we had the 2 Ohm version and thought we had the 1 Ohm, so we were pushing them too hard.

Once we got it figured out we did a bit more playing and still had crap numbers. After more investigating the next problem was that we had the 16v version that we were trying to run on 12v systems.

So yeah... that's a lot of talk just to say "good amps but make sure you're using the right version" :smilie_da

If you run them we will show you how to set them up properly. Big power small case, never had one problem with them yet. We have done death match in the garage with them, tried out daily driving them and music in the trooper :D We run the 2 ohm / 16volt versions.

You forgot the 4ohm version too Jordy. Stetsom makes a very flexably amp for all kind of different installs, one of the only companys who do this i believe.

dB Don 02-02-2008 12:12 AM

Ya I think they do what I did for subwoofer building when I was building subs :). Everything is custom.

Ok i like to know how you can see the difference on the amp between the 12v,16v and the 12v turbo, cuase i want to try thee amps to

Rip Rock 08-25-2008 06:23 PM

just an update. A team has 3 in his SS 5+ vehical and getting good power out of them. We also have 1 in a street set up and doing good with it as well (16 volt version)

dB Don 08-25-2008 08:26 PM

I have also since used the amps in both 12 application and 18 volt application and I have got an easy 10kwrms out of the amp on a .5 ohm reactive load. Now I am supposed to be receiving the 7K2D's so we can see how much more they can do dB wise and actual power output.

To help clear things up. The 12v version and 12v turbo are the same thing. Who ever gave the name turbo confused everyone. Amps are good but the company needs to rework their approach to North America.

JordyO 08-26-2008 07:24 AM

^^ Coming from you... the comment about them needing to rework their approach means a lot ;)

I was going to look at a 12v 7k for finals.. but if even YOU aren't happy with them, then I won't touch them.

CoreyC 08-26-2008 11:31 PM

Someone told me that they were junk Brazilian amps.

Never said I wasn't happy with product. I love the product. I'm just saying that Stetsom need to work on there marketing approach for North America. The product is great and I will be testing the new 7k2d this week. :)

So still don't hesitate on getting product if you are still interested.

JordyO 08-27-2008 05:06 AM

Oh.... no, I know what you mean. I'm sure the product is decent because enough people are using them without problems.

I've just heard too many problems about their support to make it worth the risk.

dB Don 08-27-2008 09:16 AM

I will have 2 replacement/upgrade 18 volt Stetsom 7K2D's hopefully, Alan and Stetsom have really been working at getting on the same page so mix-ups don't happen. So I have to give them credit for trying to make improvments. After I verify the amps I recieve are correct I can get some power tests and spl tests posted.

So I got to add, just state clearly in emails what you need from them and there will be less chance of problems. Try not to phone them because it does not help the matter, they are really busy and emails allow them to reply on their free time.

I will re post after I receive the amps and let ya know how it goes.
