DOnt tell me that everyone is getting out of car audio? Is it because of the new rules?

ChrisB 01-23-2005 11:40 AM

Some probably want to buy new gear..
Some are probably upset/angry of the new amp limitations in street..

only time will tell :D

Livin - Loud 01-23-2005 12:20 PM

Livin Loud

ChrisB 01-23-2005 12:50 PM

yeah.. we are definatly loosing more people than gaining.. which sorta blows..

crazy4bass 01-23-2005 03:16 PM

thats why we need a canadian league and or (Ontario) league Sorry westerners. If we have guys join with just there daily beaters then We may get more people to come out. I leave in a town of 5000 people and know of 12 people that would love to join IASCA or (CANADIAN SPL LEAGUE)
We have 3 guys including myself that are world class competitors but I think we need to look at the big picture, if we want more competitors to help promote the sport we need a league that won't be so costly for rookie competitors,or we need to regulate the class
eg wattage
rookie
I know kids that spend all there pay checks to try and hit the # that I may hit (from help and advise from others) or like crazy curtis and yuli with 4subs and 4amps and still not coming close. I just think we need a league that everyone can attend were competing can be more equal and most importantly be fun.

Vladi 01-23-2005 03:17 PM

u are a world class competitor? pls define that. who's the other 2?? Keyur is one and then..?????

NTenseProductions 01-23-2005 03:24 PM

Where do you sign up to become a World Class Competitor? Can you do it online? CRAZY4BASS ... I have read about you in every car audio book there is... I am your biggest fan! Can I be on your team? I watched you at all 50 comps last year! I only was able to get Yuli's autograph ... Can I get yours at the next comp? I love you man! Can I lick your foot? PLEASE???

crazy4bass 01-23-2005 04:01 PM

Is there really a need to be like that I don't think so.I am not putting anyone down or degrading anyone for there thoughts or interest in there sport or hobbies,This is called CANADIAN
CAR AUDIO and I have the right to FREE SPEECH.
YOU KNOW I MAY NOT HAVE GONE TO 50 COMPS AND MAY HAVE ONLY GOT 50 SOME ODD POINT IN IASCA AND DB DRAG BUT I TRIED MY BEST AND WAS HAPPY TO BE AROUND FRIENDLY COMPETITORS, THATS WHY I GOT INTO THE SPL SPORT TO BEGIN WITH, LAST YEAR WAS MY FIRST YEAR EVER TO COMPETE AND I WAS FORTUNETLY ABLE TO HAVE SOME GREAT SCORES 148.9. I THINK I HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE SENSITIVE ON THIS MATTER BECAUSE I LOVE THIS SPORT, AND WANT TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE THAT ARE JUST AS INTERESTED TOO. SO I GREATFULLY SORRY TO HAVE MADE THE MISTAKE OF CALLING MYSELF A WORLD CLASS COMPETITOR BECAUSE I HAVE A LOVE FOR THIS SPORT AND WANT TO SEE THIS SPORT GROW.AND FOR SACRIFICING MY TIME AND EFFORTS TO HELP PROMOTE THE SPORT TO THOSE EAGER
TO LEARN MORE. and have a love for the sport to.

PS The other competitor I was refering to was Ian Lafirst stock 2
146.6 db

Vladi 01-23-2005 04:07 PM

damn by your standards every one is a world class competitor

Haunz 01-23-2005 04:45 PM

Why is it expensive to compete.... cause of the gear other people will have or is there a fee you have to pay to be involved ?

(Ive been thinking of comming out to something and seeing what I can do with my 2 15s and 1500Wrms)

MTA 01-23-2005 05:11 PM

Vladi...you're staring to sound like Yuli or something... no wonder ppl get out of the sport... you dont have to hit 150 or 160..you just need to enjoy it...Haunz..Id love to have had you show up to my show with that...in the right set up you can easily hit 150db on termlab with it
and still have fun

Haunz 01-23-2005 05:14 PM

^ Iam going for mid 150s baby

exactly what makes a world class competitor then?

ChrisB 01-23-2005 10:04 PM

that's actually a very good question.. how do you define a world class competitor??

beauty is in the eye of the beholder (beer holder)..

Vanilla Gorilla 01-23-2005 10:21 PM

Dont take this the wrong way, but for someone not competing, and wants a nice stereo, on a budget, like me... its great that most people are selling their gear. Good deals to be had. I think the rules are fine, the event promoters, just need to add some piz-zaz to the shows. I'd love to compete, I can't wait till the next comp' in Calgary or Edmonton. I think Friendly competitors, and amazing people like Aaron Bird, and Rob (in Calgary) really make it an amazing sport. I've only met both of them, and thats why I really like the sport all together.... Its just the quality of people in it. Beer stands would be good, but in moderation. Just having a good time, Im game for that. So "Jobou" got Yuli's Autograph eh? thats hilarious. I want one too. I'd love to meet Yuli in person, I was told he is a really quiet shy guy. I cant want for him to come back. I always love talking to him

Thumper89 01-23-2005 11:08 PM

Gee...Thanks Man!!

A comment like that means alot too me...

Your not a bad fella yourself..

ChrisB 01-24-2005 05:59 AM

I think Jobou is yuli's sugar daddy..

Hrm... to step away from all the BS that has come up in this thread and actually answer the question.

Yeah, it's because of the new rules.

Suddenly all the amps that were used to be competitive in Street A are no good.

Having 1 D3 or 1 VR4000 is useless now because you're up against a Crown or a strapped pair of 200.1's.

Right...only when it benefits you though, aren't I correct? Lets not forgot how you won that first place trophy, and you weren't even ****ing grateful and tried to backstab your fellow competitor so don't gimme that bull****.

Vladi 01-24-2005 08:35 AM

well all remember that story with the D3......that was a world class act

JordyO 01-24-2005 08:45 AM

Guys... please keep the post on subject. I don't want to have to close it. I think Chris C. asked a great question and I'd like to see others opinions.

Thanks

JohnnyToronto 01-24-2005 08:51 AM

Chris, to answer your question, db drag is becoming increasingly expensive. I know I've only done about 5-7 events for the past couple of years, but this year it seems like you have to spend wayyy too much money to have "competitive" setup.
BUT I do like the idea of this new Canadian league, and I will competing in that, as it seems like the rules are being brought back to where they were before I started competing.

PT-Chris 01-24-2005 09:24 AM

Now I know that this is going to start something for sure but that is not what I intended for it to do. I hear alot of people that are in street class complaining about how it is so expensive to be competitive in DB Drag. I agree that it is expensive and it does suck, but how dedicated are you to it??? When Paul and I first started in DB Drag we went in SS 1-2, now there are a few people that go super street and extreme right off the bat and it is damn expensive!!! In our first year we must have spent $25,000 on equipment that year and paid retail for it all, not to mention the cost of trailering a vehicle as opposed to driving it. That was in the first year for us, and with the Multi we spent over $60,000 that season too. Not to mention the amount of time that it takes to build these damn things. But unfortunatley that is reality, if you want to be serious you have to pay to play. I am not saying that people in street are not dedicated to the sport but I think that there a few not all people that need to step back and look at the big picture. 2 12s and two amps is very cheap compared to 2 18s, 16 amps, 26 batteries and the cost of trailering for a whole season. Street seems cheap now eh?? And we were in SS 1-2 I wont even get into what people that get into other SS classes and not to mention extreme. So what I am trying to say is if you are not willing to spend alot of money like other people do dont complain when you dont win a show because the other guy had spent more money then you, you made that choice.

JohnnyToronto 01-24-2005 09:40 AM

Chris I'm not complaining, he was just asking why is there less and less people every year and I just gave a reason. I mean the majority of normal, non hardcore guys are in street. If you see the locals that comepte, the majoirty of them are probably not willing to spend 1k-2k, just for an amp, for the sole purpose of competing.
A lot of people I talk to at shows are audio enthusiats, and competing is just part of that, not the main reason.
What you said is true, you gotta pay to play, but for most of us, we can't afford to play. So we don't...lol.
I'm a street guy tho, and I don't care about losing, so I will continue to buy new gear every yaer and support the shows as much as I can.

PT-Chris 01-24-2005 09:45 AM

I wish that everyone could be like yourself Johnny, I really hope that you did not think that i was directing that at yourself. There is a handful of people that do complain about getting beat by someone that has spent more money or has some degree of sponsorship. To get a "sponsor" you need to spend the money first and prove your self before any company will even look at you, even after that in 95% of the cases the equipment is still not free. And if everyone got sponsorships the entire industry would be dead.

Haunz 01-24-2005 10:13 AM

I just rembemer that it is possible to hit big without a whole ton of gear...... Ill never forget hearing about some guy topping 169db with a single 10 and 5kw...

Vladi 01-24-2005 10:23 AM

Haunz that was done in an extreme vehicle, u know what an extreme vehicle is?

Livin - Loud 01-24-2005 10:45 AM

ya that vehicle to make was more $$ then any person in any street class can probably spend on equipment!!

Livin Loud

Vladi 01-24-2005 10:49 AM

lol the ammount of money invested into that vehicle's internal design was probably like 10x more than the ammount invested in the gear itself.

crazy4bass 01-24-2005 02:45 PM

You are right at the time I was not greatful Jonny AND THAT WAS MY FAULT I DON'T HAVE A EXCUSE
I won that first place trophy because mine D2 blew up and johnny was GREATFUL enough to let me borrow his and win my first first place trophy.
I was thinking of myself at the time. I would like to PROVE that I am not selfish. and I will make it up to you some time this year Jonny. I don't want to Pi@! anyone off, I have made some mistakes and am willing to admitt that. This year is a new year.

Vladi 01-24-2005 03:23 PM

so what gear u runing this year

crazy4bass 01-24-2005 04:25 PM

I told everyone what I was running last year so I think it might be a suprise, thinking of waiting until spring break nationals in flordia to diside.
maybe stock 1 2 or 3.
I am going to follow Chris B suggestion not talk about #'s and let it be a suprise.
Dying to test some new boxes.
Is anyone planning on going down in march.

King Dynasty 01-24-2005 05:35 PM

The new rules kinda suck for Db drag but its still kinda the same , look if some one uses 1 T3000bd or crown then u can strap 2 amps for cheaper than one of those would cost ya , the draw in the battery would be kinda the same , more amps more draw and less effiecint of voltage , if your going for 1 burp(most likey your highest) but then thats still the same thing realy off the battery -
as for ppl selling their gear i think they just upgrading , once u are in car stereo u will always have a system , could be mini or can be huge =-]

Uh excuse me? WOW! I gotta see this, does anybody have any pics? who was it, that pulled THAT off, wow, I stand in humble submission. Did it have a cement floor, and a totally braced inside? I can believe that.. like wow, Almost 170 eh? geez, that is amazing, one little ten'ner eh? 5 KW is a lot mind you, but for a little ten, that hsould go down in the history books. What kind of 10, and what kind of amp, does he have a Term pro competitor profile?

In an old honda civic with 2 viper 2500d's and I think it was a DD9510? I'll have to dig up the old mag it was in.

It was on the old mic so maybe a 160-163 by today's standards. Most top ex 1 competitors can do that.

Also that was with the laxed rules back in the day, so it'd be tougher now.

Do a search on termpro.
