3-Way Network this year!

Hey guys! Some of you might remember me by my little mx-3 but most likely not.

Well this year I have bought myself a 1992 Pontiac Bonenville SSEi 3.8L V6 Supercharged with 130,000KM on the dash!

I want this build to be friggin' awesome!

I still have a
-TFone 15" 2ohm DVC
-Hifonics 1600watts RMS at 1 ohm for sub
-Hifonics 150wattsx4 @ 4 ohms or 300wattsx4 at 2ohm.
-Pioneer DEH-P880PRS

I need your help on some planning!

--------------------------------------------------

The headunit can be set to an Active X-over solution (3-Way Network). So ill be putting my Sub, my Mids and my tweets on there own freq levels via the HU.

I was thinking of buying 2 sets of Components and putting one set in each door. This gives a nice WOW factor but I want to sound good to.

Another idea is, because I have a 15" Tfone" was to have a 8" woofer in the kicks, and mid and a tweet up front in the doors panels. Or something similar. I will provide pics to show how the car is layed out.

Here is what I am asking:

1. What do you think would be the best way to go for a speaker setup?
2. Keep the 15? or buy 2x12s
3. My budget is about 800$ for the front stage in speakers and wires, give my some driver suggestions!

What WOULD you do? I have so many ideas running through my head I can't seem to put the pieces together. So many possibilities >.>

PICS

6 or 8" subs/midwoofers in doors. Components in kicks. Your 15 should hit deep and u could bandpass front subs to really add some kick and pull the sub-stage forward. I have two 12"s, but love the deep bass of a 15. I find they lack punch, which the fronts would help with. I am doing a similar setup to what I suggested, but with Massive Audio components in doors and subs in kicks. I will band pass Xover my front subs as well.

If you did two sets of comps in front u could also get good mid bass and have option of putting 1 set in doors, 1 set in kicks. Are u gonna be using any TA. I'm not as of now, but would like to in the future.

I've got some CDT subs and amp coming for my front stage, and if you're not in too much of a hurry I can let u know how they work for me. There's a distibutor in Canada that gives awesome deals to CCA members and is very helpful. I believe his call name on here is Ross.

I'm sure there will be many suggestions to follow and I know what it's like having a million ideas floating through your head. Soon youll have more. LOL

Could you explain what you believe you are suggesting/doing to these speakers and what you expect the results to be?

OP - if you have the physical space for the 15, I would not bother moving to two 12s.

We're more or less discussing that in my "passive crossover questions" thread. I'll answer that there.

Take a look at the L4 from Hybrid. Mount them in your pillars without a tweeter to start. Then pick up a Peerless SLS 8 for the doors and you done.

Your car is super easy to work on.

A four in the a pillar would add a little, in your face, wow factor. ^ if that's the way you're Lookin to do it. It sounds like you're looking for multiple component type wow factor. I'm sure the Hybrid L4 is a great driver as many guys are using them and they seem to be the SQ "flavor of the month". I'd still add a tweeter, just for the look, but an impressive little four by itself in the pillar is a little understated wow factor by itself.

I'd trust the Fozzz' opinion

My suggestion was for sound quality factor more than anything. If you're not concerned with genuine sq, there are less expensive speakers you could choose from.

^I wasn't bashing the idea of using Hybrid. Heck. They are in championship winning vehicles. OP was after a wow factor and sound quality. I think the pillar mounted 4" has that. It just sounded like he was going for the multiple driver wow factor. Seems like it would be hard to integrate many drivers in the front and still have good staging and such. Creative install can still get that look without using too many drivers.

Might want to take a good look at the condition of the K-frame on that car; pretty notoriously bad. Can't hurt to get ahead of it if it's in good condition.
