I was thinking going with the Mach5 audio cause they're so damn cheap and for the most part very good mid-bass and fairly flat response curve. I would match that with the tang band tweet only cause it's just as sweet playin off-axis as it is on-axis. The vifa tweet is sweet but I think it's more for home use as it is not as good off-axis. The usher is what I would prefer to do, but I agree about using it more in a 3-way, and if I did that I would go with an 8" driver instead.

P.S. - Just to throw this out there, what do you all recommend for a 3"-4" dedicated mid in case I decided to go 3-way active?? I would still use the tang band tweet.

Fontek makes an excellent mid, or so I hear, and so does TangBand.

You mean "Fountek" FR88-EX for example, yeah this is a good driver according to alot of people. The Tangband 75-1558SE and the Dayton RS52 are also very good drivers, although dome mids. What's better for car applications, or should I say easier to work with? Dome or woofer ? Out of those three which would you pick and why? Go with the 7" usher drive for mid bass, or an 8" driver?

whoops, missed the 'u'.

The answer to your question is simple - the one that sounded best to me. Your results may vary.

I've never heard them but alot people seam to like the seas prestige ca18rnx for a midbass in a 2way, it will be my choice when i get the right stuff to go active, if i can get them in my door (depth). I think madisound wants $77ish and solen is just over $100 per driver. but worth a look

Thx for the heads up, I will look these up and do a little research. That's what I'm talking up.

P.S. anyone know a Canadian supplier for Usher, Solen doesn't seem to carry their drivers.

stockleyrod 11-25-2009 01:10 AM

yeah the CA18RNX has a range from 45-3000hz so should be able to cross nicely to a tweeter with a descent Fs.

Are you planning on running active off a HU or do you have a separate processor? if so what one and will it include T/A? I know it makes no difference, i'm just curious to see what people are running.

Currently I have an Pioneer 880 prs with MB Quarts 2-way active running off an MB Quart 4200 amp. One 12" Rockford HX-2 in the spare tire are in a custon FG box. I want a little more midbass up front so I am really considering a 3-way active up front with either the new ZED 6 channel amp or an older A/D/S I have my eye on. Currently I think I'm going with the TangBand tweet, the Fountek or the TangBand Dome mid - apparently easier for setup, and still decideing on the midbass driver which will be a 7" or 8" but I can't find a Canadian dealer for Usher. Ohh almost forgot, all processing is done by the 880prs including TA. This is a great deck with almost limitless options.

P.S. TA makes night and day difference on staging in a car.

Does the 880PRS do band pass crossover with T/A for each channel? I think if i was to do a 3 way, the Peerless SLS 6.5 in the door would my first choice in woofer. It pounds down low just don't cross it higher then 300hz. As for a mid, i'm clueless.
I'm thinking about a 3sixty.2 for the next phase in my install, a 2way active with each driver T/A. Can you comment on the 360.2?

vrdublu 11-25-2009 05:34 PM

I believe it does as the TA and EQ settings are seperate from one another, check it out this is by far the best HU in it's price range bar non.
