Active Crossovers
 

Hi I am wondering if any one is running active crossovers.
I have the deh 80prs and an older pioneer 60w amp laying around
I would use it for tweets and maybe get a used or new kenwood or something 60-75w 2 channel to drive
the mids.

It says it will do active without amps as well that would be interesiting to try
because it sounds great now running normal with just a sub

I just dont want to go through the whole rewiring of the car and not hear a diff.
but i guess im ready to experement ne way.

any experiences with active crossovers or deh80prs running active would be interesting to hear

This sentence is a contradiction. An ACTIVE system has an independent amplifier channel for each speaker.

For the most part, active systems sound better or have the potential to sound better than passive ones (where one amplifier channel powers multiple speakers by going through a passive crossover)

not really a contridiction active means an active device provides the cross overs between the bass trebe and mid. instead of passive components.
In the case of the deh80prs it clames if i switch it to network mode i can run
tweets with the fronts mids with the rear and my sub.
so the only external amp would be my sub amp

I agree most active setups would take advantage of external amps because most decks cant do it.

The 80 prs will do active in network mode as follows:

2 Tweeters : high pass
2 Mids: band pass
sub or subs : low pass

Now, you can choose to run the mids and tweets "each" of the deck's 4 channel output (one per channel) or a 4 channel or 2x 2 channel amp (one per chanel). This will depend on the drivers you have and basically which you prefer.

Sub or subs obviously need an amp too.

Oh - my mistake. I did not realize you consider the power chips in the deck "amplifiers". I certainly do not.
