Aiming kicks.
I am doing this for the first time, and initially I had them aimed at the headrests with the tweeter on the bottom. Sounds ok, but the RIGHT seems to be way to low and the music is drawn to the speaker itself. The drivers side is nice. the speakers kinda disappear. I messed around with angles, but with no luck. Do the tweeter need to be behind the mids? in front? ( baffle angle) Whats the trick? Maybe a little discussion how to set them up correctly? Who know thier stuff? |
What kind of car ?

91 Nissan NX.
Very small car. These kicks here look like there is no back to them.. is this ok to do? http://www.damnloud.com/saturn/165.html http://www.damnloud.com/saturn/big/sat026.jpg [ January 28, 2004, 07:15 PM: Message edited by: Seahag ] |
I usually build a baffle to mount the speakers, then just start playing with them on different angles.
That is a hard car cause the dash overhangs the kicks so much. |
do you try to get the acoustic centres equil distances?
any hints? I don't have the luxury of experience. [ January 28, 2004, 07:17 PM: Message edited by: Seahag ] |
I have had some success with seperating the mid and tweet onto seperate baffles.. Usually with the tweet under the mid.
As a quick discription. Start with just the mid playing (no tweet)..For starters aim them towards the back of the deck.. Then listen and play with there direction tell the center image is in the middle of the car, and is fairly deep.. Then add the tweeters and aim them to add the width and height.. after that i will play with both a little to fine tune things.. Like most things.. sometimes it works. depends on the car. Every set I have built use a baffle as well....
|
cool. thats a start.
would you use the xover on the mid for this initial testing? and (if you aim the tweeter differently) where would you place it in relation to the mid? behind, in front? |
Seahag, a picture is better then words.. So here is a picture of the last set of kicks i made.
http://images.cardomain.com/member_i...43_91_full.jpg The tweet is below and forward of the mid. Yes a xover.. Just disconnect the tweet. [ January 28, 2004, 08:31 PM: Message edited by: chev2 ] |
that car looks as tiny as mine.
Looks nice. How much time should I spend mucking around with the tweeter? there seems to be an infinite number of locations. |
