Amp recommendations for

Amp recommendations for sub:

I am looking at either the Hertz ML2500 10" or the Focal 21Wx 8" sub for my 97 Explorer. Currently running Pionner AVIC Z2 HU, Hertz EPX Amp 2x200 Hertz MLK165 Components. I am familiar with Focal 21Wx and was very happy with it. Wonderful statements have been made of the Hertz Ml2500, but I haven't had the opportunty to hear it as of yet. I am looking to balance out the MLK165's as they are noticeably missing the bottom end. Sound quality is my goal.

Looking for very clean bottom end. What ever sub is selected, it will be in a non-ported box short term, with the eventuallity of being moved to a custom sealed box hidden where the existing JBL sub is behind the rear passenger side cabinet.

Recommendations on an appropriate amp would be most welcome.

Thank you,

Jim

Hopefully solved my query. Decided to update current configuration by replacing the Hertz EPX2 Amp with a Audison LRx 4.1 and I will use the Hertz EPX2 for the ML2500. With the LRx I can drive the components separately and hopefully get closer to the sound quality I am looking for and what I have been told the MLK's are capable of.

Thanks for commenting xtreamintoronto as I certainly hope I'm getting closer to nirvana than I currently am. I thought the current setup would appease me, but after a couple of weeks of serious listening, its still not there. I can't afford a serious "A" class system nor placing such in a Ford Explorer would do something high end justice, but I would like to get as close to acceptable SQ for the dollars being spent. In a couple of weeks the truck is booked in to get the pods fiberglassed into the pillars and the fronts rewired (biwiring) for the new amp.

I look forward to updating the forum on the results then.
