Amplifier Clipping

Hey guys... I frequent the carsound board on a somewhat daily basis, and ran across this thread... http://www.carsound.com/cgi-bin/UBB_CGI/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=023738;p=0. Very good read to anyone that is interested... Post #7 to be specific.

This is the type of thing that I have been missing from this board lately; I mean there is losts of great information posted in this forums, and it's sub-forums, but in the SQ, and install sections, the traffic seems quite light... I have found myself hanging out in the doughnut shop quite often, albeit trying very hard to bypass all the FOB bs.

I know there are a lot of great minds on this board, but maybe members just aren't asking the right questions to spark a great debate, informative how-to, and the like.

I don't know, maybe it's just me,

regards, Mark

I don't know about carsound people but I hope no one on this board pushes thier amplifiers 6db into clipping with already heavilly compressed music...

Thats cause for a butt kicking... :lol_hitti

What is irritating on carsound is the 'me too' attitude where if you disagree with the norm you are considered wrong (even when you are correct). Several posts in that thread were partially correct (and partially wrong), Manvilles second post was excellent at summing the philosophy of the first post and the first post was an excellent discussion on electricity on a textbook level. That technique allowed him to speak to everyone in the room, a model if you will.

You will periodically get technical discussions on here and debate as well, as good as carsound but 'usually' more civil.

a good discussion, but ultimately somewhat useless, afterall, how do you know how far the line is with your particular speakers as far as clipped signal goes (if you're clipping them, you should be raped in the arse with the basket after the cone has blown out) until you reach the breaking point?

I love theoretical discussions, but all too often you get people who have a partial comprehension of the subject, and attempt to make others look stupid who actually understand the entire issue.

honestly, I'd rather have SQ guys get together in person for discussion forums and idea meetings than meet some keyboard commandos online.

Well I for one think its a pretty good thread and have at least one more post for it. :D

People don't always have to agree or have to be %100 correct all the time for it to be a good discussion. And some of those posts are good for comic relief if nothing else. I just wish RC still posted in his forum, he is very good at pointing out the facts.

Sass if you want to measure distortion levels... don't you own leap ????

I never meant to imply that the information given here is inferior to carsound, quite the opposite, It's just not as frequent. And I hate to tell you, but in any large community, you will find "yes men", from carsound, to ECA, to CCA, all the way up to the Gov't...

regards, Mark

I never said anything about measuring distortion levels... your post seems to be about as intelligent as usual.

so what were you asking ?

If you want to know how much power your speakers are getting with a certain amount of distortion it shouldn't be that difficult to ascertain... Don't be sore at me if you can't figure it out..
