i have very little experience with aperiodic applications although i have heard them before. i was wondering what kind of speaker will work best in this application, high q, low q, etc. i am dealing with a very small space and a aperiodic config. would be perfect. please dont recommend ib as it will not be suitable in this install. if anyone has eperience building and listening to aperiodic themselves, your input would be great. i am dealing with only being able to use a 6.5" woofer at the largest, and obviously massive output isnt the goal

I use a AP setup in my car..
couple things to keep in mind when doing AP: 1)Low Q woofers are best.. under .45 is recommended.. i try for .3.. Lower is better. 2)Low Fs 3)Some place to vent to (Trunk, outside, etc.) 4)cone area.. More the better. I wouldnt do AP with anything less then 2: 12's, or 3: 10's [ September 23, 2004, 09:44 AM: Message edited by: chev2 ] |
^ All true. AP pretty much died when car audio woofer technology advanced and made them pretty much obsolete. I hear what you are saying about what you are trying to do though as I am going to go a similar route with my 7" midbass in my kick panels. But considering what kind of woofer works best for an AP setup, it would be very difficult to find a 6.5" that will fit the bill. Worth a try though.

avi makes a woofer, the sl170, very low q, .28, low fs, 35hz. will not be using this as a primary woofer, just a woofer mounted up front to be usd in conjunction with a bigger woofer system. i have used this setup before with very good success but never with ap.

Where will the rear of the speaker be venting to? Generally if a IB install wont work, neither will AP, sense AP is just a modifyied IB.
what freq. range will this speaker be playing? |
Some of the Best System I have ever heard were done AP.
Unfortunatly AP isnt popular today due to the Woofers available. Also the industry has changed so much that many people dont talk about or understand AP.. |
the woofer will be playing around 55-60 hz and down
|
Where will the back of the speaker be venting to?
|
under the dash
|
What will divide/seal the rear of the speaker off from the front?
You say that IB isnt suitable for this install, so what makes AP suitable? The same installation rules apply for AP as IB. [ September 23, 2004, 02:32 PM: Message edited by: chev2 ] |
