I have a set of 5.25 component speakers, and I'm currently in the process of building some fibreglass door pods for them. They will be in the bottom portion of my door in the stock location.

My question is, I am planning on having the tweets and mid in the doorpods, and I was wondering if I could just hook up the extra set of tweest that I have on the same crossover and put them in the a-pillars.

If you know what I mean, I'd appreciate any advice/help.

I asked the same question a while ago, apparently if you hook up a second set of tweets it will change the crossover point and adversely affect sound quality. You may be able to run them in parallel with the components (i.e. in parallel with the crossover box itself), but then half of your power will go to the tweeter (if it is the same resistance) and this may not be what you want.

After getting that reply, I just decided to try it out on the day I install my fronts... chances are I'll end up with the components only, but if the extra tweet makes an improvement one way or the other, I'll throw it in as well.

If the tweeters are actively crossed over, you can put two on one channel of power as long as the total impedance of the tweets is within amp specs.

If you are using passive crossovers, you could put the two tweets on the same channel of power as long as each has its own crossover.

Two tweets on the same output of a passive crossover? No go. Since the total impedance will change, the crossover point will be all screwed up.

Just put a 2.2uf cap in series with the
tweeters (8ohm tweeters). 4uf cap if 4 ohm tweeters. Should do well if the tweeters are placed up high.
Relates to a 1st order xoover point at 8500~10000 hz


Another problem is efficiency, Wich can make them sound horrible, You`ll need to find a way to attenuate them.

Thanks for the help guys, I think I'll wait until I get the doorpods installed first and decide after if I need the extra tweets or not.

Much cleaner to do a 12 dB slope, if you're gonna add a second set. a cap alone, even a small one, won't drop off soon enough to lose the resonant peak of the tweeter.
Easy to hear the dif....just try the tweets alone with rhe cap in place, and then short it out through a coil across the input leads. You'll hear the drop in distortion immediately.
If you're unsure of the coil value....err on the side of lower freq that the charts say...presents a more stable load to the amp, and still has the same affect. Getting harder to find a source for decent coils these days tho....you want to stay at least 18 ga.
I'll look up the exact values for you if you want to try it. A bit of experimenting with inserting a piece of steel ( socket, bolt, etc) into the coil, will lead you to the exact value, if you want to make the effort. ( Adding Iron into the coil increases its value) The benefits are quite stunning.
