yeah, I've used both the type r and the infinity ref series for some time, and as far as I'm concerned they both sound equally as good. The Alpine can handle a lot more power and get louder, but SQ wise the Infinity is as good. The perfect series should be even better SQ wise. Anyway, my 2 cents, to each his/her own.

ive had bad experiences with some cheap infinity and id rather not get those

for my budget id probably have to look into used ones
i dont mind as long as its in good working order

OUCH !! ........that's a tight budget. Although I don't recommend used gear unless you know where it's been and how it was used, that may be your only avenue to find something "good` for a hundred bucks.

yes thats my lexus and my signature on clublexus.com
but just because i drive a lexus doesnt mean i cant be frugal
hehehe

im willing to spend a bit more than just $100 but sub really isnt the most important upgrade for me so id rather not spend much on it as i dont require much bass and really dont want to have ppl on the sidewalk staring at my car because of the sub pounding thru

it just seems that nowadays market is really saturated with subs that are both SQ and SPL

what i want is in the extreme, high SQ but low SPL if one even exists

i dont care if its used as long as its in good quality

so more specifically, a sub thats high SQ and is low powered
and i only need 1 because trunk space is limited in my car

cardomain is actually selling 12" IDQs for $100 USD
http://www.cardomain.com/shoplist~b~Image+Dynamics~t~Subwoofers

too bad they dont have the 10"s for like $80 USD or something

Well my Cantons are entirely SQ-oriented and low power rated at only 100 watts. They could probably take more but I wouldn't feed a 1000-watt amp into with bass boost or anything.
