Class A/B Amp
 

Just picked up a set of German Maestro M class speakers, 6.5".. Already have a set of their 6905's wich I like, but they are underpowerd with a Memphis Amp. So, I'll be looking for a new 4 chanell or 2-2 channel amps. I've always liked Rockford Fosgate, but after talking with one of the Reps from German Maestro he suggested I look at ARC. Does anyone have any thoughts about Arc....? From what I understand a 90 watt class A/B amp from Arc, should blow away a higher watt amp from RF or any of the other mainstream amps...

Arc makes good sq amps.

I doubt it, but Arc is a respected brand name.

buy used a/b. not many make them as good as older models, as things are made over seas. precision power personnel favorite

Phoenix gold has a higher line now that is class A/B. Also mosconi (very high end) is class a/b. I prefer class a/b over class D for components.

of course you can go used, like I did, to get a super high end classs a/b for the price of a brnad new middle of the line amp. I spent $500 on my Mac (10 years old), where $500 wouldnt get me a new amp that meets my standards.

95% of the time you won't hear the difference between amps. You will need a very good I stall and tune to hear the advantages of "better" amplification. ARC make excellent amps in several price ranges. You will have no problem finding what you need from them. And the Canadian distributor is an awesome guy to deal with.

Anyways, in all seriousness, I can hear the difference between a really good a/b and most class d amps. I know that my Mac has a cleaner sound than my 300/4 had. I hear details that I never knew were there. In defense of your point, the jl amp was not running dyns, it was powering quarts.

Me thinks you're right Dukk.
Although each amplifier will "react" differently with different speakers, it goes without saying it will sound "different".
The speakers you purchased probably do sound their best when coupled to "Any" class A/B amplifier. As for quality of manufactured products, there is more to it besides sound quality, such as build design, topology, and quality of parts.
You will also notice a difference in sound when changing interconnecting cables and speaker wire.
So if you plan on getting a nice amplifier to match your speakers, may as well finish the "ensemble" with quality cables and quality installation, because you're putting it all in a very noisy environment.
I also agree that amplifier classes do sound differently, as each will use either Voltage driven amplification, or current driven type, where class D affect the unit's Power Supply .
..But that's just my two cents worth.., on second thought, make it a nickle. ;-)
