Compatibility/Sound quality JVC KWR500 w/Infinity speakers?
 

Could someone please help me with a question. I purchased a JVC KWR 500 hu, a pair of Infinity Reference 6032cf 6.5, and a pair of Infinity Reference 9633cf 6 x 9 from Amazon for $222, and will recieve them on 11/26/12. My ? is, will these speakers work well off the hu without an amp, and does anyone know if the sound should be clean/clear sounding at a moderately high volume setting? Maybe, I should have looked more into it before purchase, but I've done it now, and know nothing about car stereos. I thought you just bought the radio & speakers, and they just work...from what I've been reading online, that's incorrect. I'd prefer not to use an Amp, but will if I have too. I haven't found anyone posting results of coupling that JVC hu with those Infinity speakers, worrying if there is a reason why.

Most aftermarket speakers needs to be amped to sound good and loud.

You already have them, so try them on the hu and see if you like the the sound and quality, if not then amp them.

What did Amazon tell you when you asked them this?

I didn't see an option on Amazon, that suggested what speakers to put with what radio. And I haven't received them yet, but when I do i'm not going to return them, so I'm stuck with them, and now starting to wondered if I did okay or not. I've never heard of Infinity Reference.

All kidding aside, the simple answer is that if the speakers and head-unit are installed correctly, then yes, it should be an improvement over the stock stereo system - and it should sound clean and clear at a moderately high volume setting.

The first question I'd have for you is what kind of sound are you after, and what reason(s) do you have for upgrading your car stereo?

The biggest improvement in your audio system will stem from the increased power of the new JVC head-unit over the stock stereo. It is likely that your OEM speakers would have sounded much better simply by installing that HU. Adding these Infinity speakers will make for a slight improvement.

The good news is that your particular HU choice allows for amplification, if it becomes necessary. You will have 2.5V pre-outs for connecting RCA cables to an amplifier. The issue may be the front speakers, as they are 60W RMS @ 2 ohm. Finding an amplifier that will operate at 2 ohm, and only output 60W RMS is going to be near impossible.
Your best bet will probably to run the speakers off the HU power, and install an amp for a modest subwoofer. The Infinity's are going to be lacking clarity on the bass frequencies. An amp/sub combo will take care of that issue.

I have a 2012 Sonata. I run the OEM speakers off a new Kenwood HU, and I run an 8" sub at 300WRMS off a Kenwood amp. This may be the type of setup you're looking for...
