Component recommendation's

hey guys, i ran a few systems in the past but never had a component set. so my new sub/amp combo will be 2 12" vega vmax subs, in a ported box. running on a kx1200.1 amp. they will be going into a 1997 lincoln town car. i beleive the door speakers are 6x8.
i want to keep the speaker hidden in the doors.

im not to sure how much a set goes for but i dont want to pay more then $300-$400 components set and amp, i dont mind getting used gear. so what im asking is what do u guys rec for a component set? and what amp for run them?

Thanks

Well for powering them, I would recommend something with power, like bridging a 4 channel down to 2 channels (just make sure the final load is 4 ohms)

Used Boston Pro-Series 6.4 or 6.5 component set and an older Soundstream Class A, A/D/S PowerPlate, or even an Alpine 3544 or Punch 150.

This will cost you $400 on the cheap and will provide you with a decent sounding pair of speakers.

speaker choice is very personal.. what your ears like, mine might not.
go to as many stores in your area and demo all the speakers you can.. bring your own music on a cd or usb (both if you can) and go from there..
$300 - $400 for an amp and speakers is not much for new equipment. you might want to see whats available used in the for sale section. this sometimes takes your ears out of the equation though as you are limited in choice. since it sounds like you dont know what you like just yet, you may be better off saving up but get the demoing out of the way so yuoat least know what it is you like and want.

good luck

Dan
the pricing in the above post might not be valid in Canada. if your in the USA maybe

Components

I'm digging up old thread because theres been 100's about which comp set to buy.

I need new 6.5 comp set, can't decide, I'd like to see and hear first.
I've seen all the recommendations for Morel, Hertz, focal, dls, cdt, etc, but where can i hear and buy??
I'd like something better than my almost 5 yr old MBQuart Ref's. Currently they run active.
I live in Ajax, so anything whitby to Scarberia would be good.

Thanx,
Tom

I agree with this, just installed a set of the mpt 6.5's into my wifes car and am quite impressed I have run McIntosh, A/D/S, and Quarts over the years and am really liking these Canadian made speaks
