Correct system settings regarding SQ - Help please
Hey, thanks for looking.
I have (mostly!) installed my new system - HU, amp, sub, tweeters, reloc. factory stereo and most of the wiring. The last part is making pods for my Eclipse components for the front doors, installing them and hooking up the crossovers & tweeters.
I built my own sub box http://www.canadiancaraudio.com/onli...osure-pix.html and it seems Ok. I made the internal volume as suggested by Pioneer (~47 litres) and ported it as per their instructions.
I have a JBL CS series 60.4 amp and a Pioneer DEH-P680MP HU and my question is "How do i configure my amp and HU correctly for this setup?"
The amp has several settings including pass filters and the HU has the same with a way to define the cutoff frequency. How would i know what that should be?
I guess this might have something to do with the frequency of my sub box, but i dont know what that is either.
Any help you can give me is appreciated, and if i need to supply more info, I will...
Cheers

I have a Pioneer HU (8600mp) aswell as 2 amps
the HU has crossovers for the RCA outputs
I'm running front and rear to a 4 ch amp
for this amp I'm running just the HU crossovers, so the amp is set up as full pass (not sure if I should be running the amps crossovers aswell but so far no reason to change it)
As for the subs I'm using the HU crossover aswell as the Amps LPF
I'd recommend looking up the frequency range of your speakers and adjusting crossovers accordingly
mine for example is:
Front HPF at 80hz (speakers do 75hz-22khz)
Rear HPF at 50hz (speakers do 45hz-22khz)
and Sub LPF at 80hz (not sure about the frequency range of my subs)

I've been here long enough that I should know if there was a sticky for basic setup on this forum to direct you to but to state it quickly:
see figure #7 in your owner's manual and make the identical connections/adjustments. Components on the front channels with filter set to HP and sub bridged on rear channels with filter set to LP. Set the bass boost pots both to zero. Frequency pots start out with each at ~125Hz and fine tune from there. Set your gains with your HU volume up around 3/4 and turn the pots up until the speakers start to distort and then back them off slightly. Set your crossover frequency again by listening to your comps and lowering the frequency until they can't handle it and then adjust the sub frequency accordingly. After doing this and playing with tone controls (EQ, loud button, etc.) you will ikely want to fine tune crossover frequency's and gain settings again. Keep fine tuning until you've played lots of different material through your system and you're happy with the sound.
Hopefully this makes sense as I've written it quickly as I don't have much time at the moment but I saw you didn't have many responses yet (and you drive a j-body also).
