Does anyone use 15 inch subs for sq comps??

I see 12's and 10's mostly but i don't see much 15's. So like the title i was wondering if there are many sq competitors that use 15 inch subs

nice looking install. I use 15's and they sound incredible and i know they can keep up with many 12's and 10's but i just don't see many sq cars with 15's. Maybe it's also a space thing

lpchouinard 04-12-2011 10:22 AM

yup space thing and misconception that larger driver are "slower"

lpchouinard, can I ask you about your doors?
You seem to have maintained the stock look of the door while placing a custom lower section ... That's cut into the door? You create that yourself? And what prevents the rest of the door from cracking across, since its now opened up? Looks great though, love that look.

His doors have L8's behind them, and the trim panel you see is filling the gap where the OEM map pocket used to be. The trim panel is attached to the plastic door skin, while the L8's are mounted to the doors via a Baltic Birch baffle and ridgid steel steel supports all around.

I've been staring at my pocket the last few weeks wondering what I can do with it, so I had to ask. Thanks for the info, going to consider a similar look.

Also using 15's for SQ is awesome, with the right driver/enclosure of course. Won't force you to over eq the low end to try get the 18-20hz notes you need for competitions. I'm a big fan of the ARC 15's for this. The subs dig really low in relatively small enclosures, make no mechanical noise and the distributor is a CCA supporter!

I will have to read up on It some more, but I thought it was a safe assumption about the larger = slower sub idea / debate. More moving cone is going to take more effort (compared to a 8" or 10") ... Or is that not correct?
