We're about to put 2 possibly 4 of them in a 1980 Porsche 911, on the rear parcel shelf.
Look at it this way, where space is a premium, these sub-woofers (yes they are) ROCK!!

 

Bringing up an old thread here.
Is the 5WS still available and if so, where?
What did they cost when they first came out and what would a set cost these days?
Are there newer products out now of similar size that could replace these?
I'd like to find a nice set of small shallow clearance subs for my project.

 

If you have the space these JL 6s are a wicked little driver....kinda deep to mount in a door, but they take such a small box you could hang it under the rear deck no problem.....

There are others made by other companies of course, time to do a little surfing......

I have no rear deck and I wasn't going to be putting them in the door either.
I have MB Quart 6.5" components in the front doors and on the rear corner shelf (hatchback 300ZX). I was looking to redoing the false floor in the threar hatch area that's already ~ 3" deep by raising it another 1 to ~ 1.5" and then use 1/2" or 3/8" MDF. I would then section off 2 parts of that area (either side) to place 2 subs. A 6" or 6.5" sub might be a very tight fit. In any case the sub has to be shallow clearance of course.
Since you're in the "Sauga", can you recommend a few good places to source some good quality subs. Hometown is Burlington so I'm fairly familiar with the area and don't mind shopping between Oshawa and Hamilton. Or would it be better to buy online and if so, where?
I just quickly saw mention of the eD e3.6. What are your thoughts on those?
I like the JL's you listed as well. I think both of those sets look doable.

The current generation of the 5" Focal is the Utopia BE13WS and it is one fine speaker. Hit me up by PM for more info if you like.

After some more research I came to that conclusion as well. trouble is, the cost that speaker is more than trippled at somewhere around the $500.00 mark which is way beyond my tastes. Finding an old pair of 5WS's would probably be impossible at this point.
I'm also looking to some other alternatives such as the eD e3.6 or the JL 6W 3V3-4

I did 2 tours there in the Control Tower. First time (80 - 84) I lived in Comox and the last time (95 - 01) I lived on Tamarack Dr. Courtenay, just behind Mission Junior High.
