K...I have a chance at picking up a pair of slightly used Focal Utopia 6.5" drivers. The dude wants $100 for the pair. Would I be stupid not to get them?

I plan on using them in a 3-way set-up possibly with a Focal 24db 3-way passive crossover, Boston Pro 4" mids and Boston NEO5T tweeters in custom f/g pods. Yeah, a bit of a 'mutt' set-up but it should sound good.

What do y'all think?

BTW: Amp will be a Kicker ZR360 (for now)

I say you tell me who's selling them, so you can let me buy them.

Muwahahaha....you will never know !!!!

Yeah, I'm gonna go for it. Thing is, is it a good idea to mix crossovers, drivers, tweets in this little 'jungle fever' set-up?

Why not?

If that is what your taste is then go for it.
I have the same taste as you and for that price I would definitly try it myself.

Uhhh... $100 for a set of Utopia 6.5's? If you don't buy it you would be a fool! Even if you buy it and don't like it, you could sell it again for at least the same price. What model are they?

If you really want to start mixing drivers, you may want to consider an active setup. IMO, that would be optimal for SQ.

If this person had to actually pay for these speakers, it is unlikely he would sell them to you for $100, unless they are thrashed.

So you might want to ask him to show you a receipt. He should have the receipt even if he bought them from the original owner, as people who pay more than a grand for a pair of comps tend to keep their paperwork just in case.

Here's the story on these babies if you must know. This dude I know is running into some financial problems and he will be selling quite a bit of his high-end gear. Because he is a pretty good friend, I get these for a very good deal. He got them as a gift from his dad a few years ago. I get reciepts and a guarantee that they are in good shape. I saw a picture of them and only the backside of the magnet is a bit scraped (just the sticker). Not too bad I figure.
