Focal X-over setup HELP!

I'm having a little trouble getting my Focal KP100 tweeters to be a little more crisp on the top end. I find often if I increase the level on the x-over from -7 to -4 they scream like a SOB but lack high end treble!

EQ is flat and the KP100s are in the kicks of my car and are equally setup with laser pointers for proper imaging.

Any suggestions

btw - I plan to setup up and AudioControl RTA to flat line my system for best possible sound.

Cheers

Lazer pointers? uhmmmm

I might suggest trying the tweeters on axis or off axis see if there is a difference there. If not, try them higher up in the a pillars if you can. Both situations playing with the built in attenuation of the xover.

that tweeter works best off axis...

My kicks are complete and here is a photo of them!

I've seen many other vehicles with this setup and excellent results.

I guess a lot of tweaking goes a long way.

I really don't recommend using on EQ on these tweeters, it's a band aid for a design problem.

I hate to say it, but consider trying some other tweeters...you might be surprised.

Thats great to know now!

Before you try different tweeters, move the ones that you have now to either high on the door (in the factory spot is the first place to try), then on the bottom of the A pillar next. Use some duct tape to hold them in place while you listen to them. There is no rule that says you must have them in the kicks, it is entirely user preference and the only way to know is to try it.

There's no design problem, just Focal bashers.

Yea, they do work better off axis, but unless you want to build new kicks you're kinda stuck with what you have.

I like them in the dash or pillars the best.

My suggestion would be to leave the attenuation low and eq some high end out of it. Although I gotta say this is the first I've ever heard of a TN52 being that bright. and like you said, many people have a set up similar to yours with success, maybe your tweets are not working correctly....maybe find someone with the same set and swap out tweets. I've found the 52's to be smooth as hell...never overly bright.

I have the tn52's in my "A" pillars off axis & running active and they sound great, even had to add a bit of eq, but definitely not too bright.

Nice kick pods by the way!

Thanks for the compliments on the kicks. I love them! Imaging is beautifull. Just the high end treble!

BUZZ what do you have the x-overs set to for ATT -7 to 0??

Thanks Julian
