4x8" would be nice to look at, novelty wise. What if one fails?

I run 4 8s. I like it.

well the simple answer is you'd still have 3 working...do I win a prize??? And I think 4x 10's, 12's or 15's is nicer to look at personally.

How are they on the low end?

four 15" are nice to look at.................... yeah.

I had some time to kill so I ran the two subs in question and an id8 d2 v3 for comparison's sake on winisd. the type r and id are to manufacturer's specs and the cdt is based on the programs flat response calculation and tuned to 40 hz. All are with max rms power...750 watts for type r, 600 for id, and 800 for cdt. thoughts??? I have to say I'm a little surprised at the output, though this is a simulation, it sure makes me wonder.

thanks veeman. what's wrong with the alpine 15?? I don't listen to too much material with sub sub bass, so I think above 30 hz is good for me, I like lots of midbass kick, and bass guitar which I think is centered around 60hz anyway.

To me, 4 8" sounds more suited to what you're going to be listening to. I understand you want the ability to get into the lower frequencies, but when you aren't listening to the low stuff, how is that 15 going to sound? Do you have high quality midrange drivers that can play low enough? I say run the 8's. Sure, they won't hit as low but they are going to sound much tighter on the rest of your music. I say that because you just mentioned liking "midbass kick" and bass guitar, two things that need a driver with good control (attack and decay comes to mind....) and the 8's will be more suited to accurately reproduce those freq's. With 4 of them on 800wrms, I'm sure you will enjoy the "kick" ;)

I'd second that. I'd bet hands down you'll be WAAAY more happy with 4x8". Way more snap in an 8", more controlled and four 8's look DAMN SEXY !!!
