front stage: looking for SQ and SPL
 

hey im looking for opinions again. now that ive completed my sub stage,(thanks to everyone who gave input on that thread) im looking to do up my front stage properly. im looking for a nice clean set of 2-way 6.5" components. like with my sub, i want them to be LOUD yet still remain clean, tight, and clear. tweeters will be mounted in stock location in dash, mids will be in my doors. my current components suck. i find when played too loud they fall apart and lose any SQ they had before. of course i would also do fulll sound deadening to my whole door when i install the components. the sets i was looking at so far are as follows:

1. focal 165 KP components
Focal 165-KP (165kp) 6-1/2" K2 Power Series Component System

2. JL audio C5 components
JL Audio C5-650 (c5650) 6-1/2" Evolution C5 Series 2-way

3. Polk MM6501 components
Polk Audio MM6501 6-3/4" (Oversized 6-1/2") Mobile Monitor (MM)

the MAX im looking to spend is about 800$. just for front stage components. this doesnt include deadening. just speakers.

ive heard the focals. i really liked them. they were very bright and detailed. i personally have not heard very many high quality speakers so i dont have much to compare them to, but being focal, and what people tell me, they're apparently some of the best. i havent heard the c5's yet but i will soon. the polks are the problem. ive heard amazing things but no shop in my area(brampton/mississauga) deals with polk. the one shop that does, can bring them in but has no demo for them.

im looking for opinions on the speakers ive posted up, and also anything else thats falls at around an 800$ price point. im willing to spend a few $$ more if theres something SO much better for 100$ more. oh and my power is a JL HD600/4. substage is a 12W7 on a 750/1. music i like, everything from rap to rock to metal to techno to dubstep. literally everything. anyways looking for some good input from all like on my substage thread.

I got a demo from a H.A.T. dealer in a scion xb and I was blown away by the sheer clarity. But all of it will be install dependent, if you had money to spend on $800 components you should get tuning done on a RTA to maximize the performance.

Tuning done on am RTA? Sorry I'm slightly new to the terms used could you explain to me what that means? also I've never heard of Clarus. Thanks for the input though I'll look into clarus

I'd check out Hybrid Audio Technologies in the imgaine series and clarus series.
Also the Hertz MLK mille, Focal krx2 and the list goes on.
an RTA real time analyzer will show your frequency spectrum live and you can equalize peaks and valleys in your car to give a flat line from 20-20kz (ideal)

i know these are slightly above your range, but my favorite speakers thus far:

I am not familiar with the newer brands so there could be better stuff for the money.

RTA tuning is cool for a rough in, but ultimately your personal hearing preferences are unique to you and an RTA will get everything set up to make it either flat, or with a level curve.

I always tuned my EQ by ear.

What about audison voce? Anyone heard those? I've heard good things about them. How much does and rta tune cost roughly? I've usually just tuned by ear

Audison Voce is supposed to be excellent. I personally will not recommend something that I have not heard personally, but lots of people that are into high end stuff highly recommend it.

I dont see a point in getting someone with an RTA to tune your system unless you have en EQ. You have limited adjustability in your head unit and amps, and someone who knows what they are doing can do it with you and get it perfect for your ears.

An RTA is important to tune something like a 30 band EQ or a 10 band parametric EQ.

Yea I don't have that kind of eq in my HU. Just a simple 3 way parametric eq. I plan to upgrade my headunit after my front stage is done. Either the clarion cz702 or pioneer deh-80prs. Maybe even a newer kenwood excelon but I'll figure that out later. For now I'll worry about my front stage.

I dont recommend getting that kind of EQ in your head unit. If you plan to compete then get an external EQ, otherwise the basic eq built into your head unit should be just fine.
