Hay yall, I am really racking my brain when it comes to choosing a new head unit for my car. My first thought is to use a Pioneer DEX-P9 with processor. But I dont want to leave any stones unturned. I will be competing as a rookie this year and dont want to cheap out. The Pioneer is nice because it is an all in one (or two I guess) unit, complete with crossover, eq, and time delay. But is there another head unit that I should be looking at. I know that the Pioneer isnt the best sounding unit out there, but from what I can see it's the most complete unit available.

thanx

Sounds good. Some other competent systems worth looking into are:

Alpine CDA 7949 along with either PRA-H400, PXA-H600, or PXA H700. The H400 and 600 came out about the same time, but are quite different from each other. They both have optical inputs and time correction, but they have different DAC configuration and certain function. the H400 has crossover whereas the 600 has only EQ and would be crossed over using a seperate electronic crossovers.
The H700 has both capabilities, and is the latest, but it's an expensive unit.

I myself am using the 7949 with the H400 using TOSlink and I think it's great. I paid no more than 500 for the bundle, minus the Optical cable.

The 7949 is not the only unit that's capable for use with the DSP. Any Alpine deck with AI-Net should be compatible with these units, but it's nice to have optical.

- Another one that's nice is the Sony CDX-C90 coupled with the 210EQ or the XDP 4000X. The 210 is a multichannel EQ, and I don't think it has x/o features, but the 4000X does. However, I've heard of difficulty tuning the 4000X because it has to be dialed in via PC. I think I remember dawgsbreakfast commenting on that one unit. I was going to consider this setup with the 4000X, but I'm a bum and couldn't afford it at the time. lol

Hope this helps a bit.

Sorry but I dont know much about eclipse. Will it do everyting that the P9 will do???

scarlemthug 02-24-2004 09:08 PM

Yeah, it has 8volt pre-outs, 10band parametric EQ, 3-way crossover with 6-24variable slopes, time alignment and its the best deck ive heard to date.

Um, I was wondering how you figure that this deck alone is on the same level as the P9 combo?

You are obviously biased towards Eclipse.

The P9 combo has a 4 way crossover, 4 way time alignment, and dual 32 band eq to name a few features that the Eclipse doesn't have. Spend the extra cash and get a P9 combo. You can pick one up used for a lot less than retail.

i agree with scarlemthug the eclipse 8053 is the best sounding headunit i have ever heard... Never hard the p9 combo so I can't pass any type of judgement here id say by the sounds of things the p9 is a good way to go.
