Help With Active CrossOver
 

Hey guys. I've searched and read several threads on here about processors.

I'm looking for something that will just act as an active cross over and thats it. Most of these units I am coming accross are complete signal processors worth 200 to several hundred dollars. I'm looking to run just my front component set, off of an active crossover unit.

Which unit would be most cost effective for me and where could I get it?

I will be running Hertz Energy Components --> 6-1/2" using an Audison SRx4. 2 Channels for woofers and 2 channels for tweeters.

with the audison srx4 you should be able to do an active crossover simply within the amp. run the tweeters to channel a, and the mid-bass to channel b. run channel A on a high pass crossover. and run channel B on a low pass crossover. if your deck allows you could also set a high pass crossover at 80hz or so for the entire system, this way your mid-bass would be protected a little more because it wont be trying to play sub-bass freqs

i know of one that goes for about 6000.

I guess my misunderstanding is the tweeter. THe frequency response for the Hertz tweeter is 2000hz to 23 000hz. The max filtering frequency I can use on the amp is at 220hz. Won't sending a 220hz frequency destroy a tweeter that can only output sound at 2000hz.

Also don't I want a bit more than a low pass frequency of 220hz for midbass? The hertz 6.5" driver can hit frequencies of 8000hz.

Will I not be missing out on frequencies between 220hz and 2000hz if I ran it using the crossovers from the amp.

I can use a HP filter from my deck as it does have this feature. Selection of - 50Hz—63Hz—80Hz—100Hz—125Hz

EDIT: I am running the older blue Srx amp.

so there is no 10x switch for the filter???

Not on the old style SRx amps. I've had 2 of these amps for quite a while. Perhaps it's time to upgrade.

I noticed on the Audison site, that the new SRx line has filters that will do 5000hz if I'm seeing correctly. Only thing is they probably cost a fortune.

probably no more then the old line did when it was new.
