Hey, need some suggestions from you audiogurus out there. My selection is pretty limited as I have a very small mounting depth.

I'm looking at upgrading my door speakers; I'm looking for something with decent midrange bass and overall clarity when amplified adequately. I'm willing to downgrade to 5 1/4" components but I'd prefer to stick w/ 6.5s. I haven't decided yet, but I might upgrade the rear deck with some decent midrange fillers, or maybe 2 8" subs if I'm up to the challenge. So far I've looked at:

- Boston Acoustics ProSeries 6.5" 2ways
- CDT CL-61 2ways
- Focal 165v Slims

I popped open my door panels and wow is it shallow in there (around 2 5/8"). It seems I'll need to make some huge spacers if I want to fit anything in there. I'd like to avoid any major modification to the door panels if possible (Just so I don't affect resale value of my car). BTW, I recently installed an Alpine 9811 HU. I drive a 2001 Impreza 2.5 RS.

Any info and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Eric

I really wouldn't be doing my part around here if I didn't step in and mention....

get the CDT's! They are an awesome sounding speaker for the price. I'm sure you'd be happy with any of the ones from your list. I have heard mention before that the Boston Pros' tweeters are painfully bright, but I've never heard them before.

i would have to recomend the Alpine type R's 6 1/2

The sound that comes out is so crisp and clear, definitely give them a listen

I'd go with Focal personnally, but I haven't heard the CDT stuff yet....and Boston would be my last choice, because I'm just not a big fan of them.

CDT is supposed to have some of the nicer speakers on the market though.

From what I've been told, the Focal 165v slims are way overpriced for what you get. I really would need to sit and listen to them to judge if they were worth the price.

Take a look at Diamond Audio M6 or HEX components. I had a set of M551's (2001) and they were uber shallow and performed great. They satisfied a guy like me. :D A great set for a guy like you, M6's are comparable to Polyglass, and HEX kind of a an in-between of Polykevlar and Utopia.

Available with silk dome or aluminum dome tweeters.

As an FYI, the M6 5¼" mount depth is 1 7/8" and the M6 6½" is 2 1/8"

Thanks for the heads up. You're an RS guy aren't you? I'm considering buying Biohazard's US acoustics amp if he hasn't already sold it. Do you think that it would be enough to power those components, or the components I previously mentioned? Where is the closest dealer for Diamond Audio in the GVRD? From what I understand, you sold Biohazard a Sony ES amp... you wouldn't by any chance have any other nice amps lying around would you?

Look at the JL xr series or the alpine spx series.

You get what you pay for.

Focal may be a tad expensive but you gotta remember that they've been around a lot longer than CDT or Boston and they're handbuilt.

Guy knows how to build an awesome sounding speaker and I figure your getting an excellent speaker for the price you pay.

You could pay much more for JL or MBQuart and end up with a speaker that doesn't sound as good.

Just my oppinion

Focal.JMlab was started in 1980.

Boston was started in 1979.

So much for "being around a LOT longer".
