Hertz MLK165 vs Pioneer TS-C720PRS

I have a long term bias for Pioneer since high school days. Already have a trio of PRS amps ready to go.

wanting to change out my DLS comps for something different, just to hear what different systems sound like.
the Hertz are for sale here for undedr $500, I can get the Pioneers for $300.

I have heard great things about the Pioneers on DIY mobile audio, particularly the midbass. Plus the Qts is tuned for in door installation without a sealed box. I am not sure what the Hertz are designed for. I will be able to run these passive or active with gobs of power.

Any ideas from this crowd..

and btw... My DLS set will then be for sale.. complete with Iridium 3"mids and electronic crossover!

Have you read reviews on the mlks?? Diyma has tons and I would say the pioneers aren't in the same league... Being I am a daily mlk owner they are very nice speakers and produce a ton of midbass down to 55-60hz iv had people think there's a sub in my car at times when I don't run a sub at all...
I'd say the pioneers may have one advantage and that's a smooth tweeter. I find the hertz have to be dialed back from 2.5-4k in order for me to not get that shrillness response from that range as the tweets crossed at 2.6ish also the midbass does not play very high if that's something ur looking for. I'd say relitively uselss above 1k and barely audible above there.. In order to blend the mids ur tweets must play low

so I dont understand... the hertz mids are bad above 1KHz but you cross the mids over at 2.5K? so what do you do with that big hole in the middle?
I hate shrill sounds.. so seems like the Pioneers are for me!

the test results on diymobileaudio, from npdang, and the klippel machine prove without a doubt that the pioneer prs is a better buy, also outperfoms the focal speakes please review on there web site. i personally use the prs, and have a fellow competitor that runs the milles. now his are nice and acurate, but so are mine, his are 500 bucks, mine are 300 bucks, its really up to you but base your decision on what works better for you. the pioneer definitly dont like a small enclosure. so kick panel will not work, if you can give them a nice door and seal it up properly, i really dont think you will find a 200 dollar difference between the drivers.. good luck.. ps. both are kick butt drivers and i would have no issues running either one.

My PRS got me a perfect mid-bass score last year. I had tons of Hushmat in my doors to compensate for sloppy box syndrome. I was super happy!

What I'm saying yes they obviously cover above 1k and all the spectrum but in my opinion sound not nearly as good after 1k and up.. Which is barely noticeable until you turn the tweets off and do some testing on just the mids

the pioneer spkrs are very linear up to around 2500 hz, if thats an issue run a wide band 2-3 inch up high from 400hz to 3k.

Linear? In what environment?

I ran mine up to 4k with the tweets at 1.6k actively.

and probably sounded damn good. these are just really good speakers that get no attention because pioneer made them.. period. sorry hybid audio, focal, morel, hz. the pioneers are top notch and deserve to be listed as one of the 5 best midbass units ever made.
