High-End Component Suggestion

Yes another "suggest a speaker" thread but this one's for me so you know it's gonna be good. :) Christmas time brings the ever popular "me present" and mine might be components this year as I'm in the hunt to try something new.

Two-way 6.5 set with crossovers (I'm staying passive) with a shallow mounting depth (2.5" is great).

I personally was very pleased with the Focal K2P set but they're too deep unfortunately. Without access to all the sets I would like to hear recommend something and the reason why. Component speakers are very user decision based but try to use the fact that my taste is with the K2P set so something close to them would be ideal. They will see all types of material through them. My short list that I'm looking at the moment is:

-MB Quart "Premium" or "Q-Line"
-DLS Iridiums
-Polk SR6500

Price (To some extent) and power requirements aren't of concern.

Morel might have something that fits the bill for you as well.

Buy raw drivers from a company like Solen or the like, and go active. You will like the results better and maybe save some money. Or if for some reason you really dont like active, just build your own passives.

Agreed, active is great. Why pay for a passive xover when often they just arent that great compared to the possible results with the onboard actives of the amp.

I have to say that I am partial to Canton. If I had more money I would probably try and get all raw drivers from AVI or HAT audio. Only reason I would switch from the cantons is because I wouldnt mind smaller drivers. It would be easier to install.

When you figure you can get a great set of drivers from companies like SEAS, Scan Speak, Vifa, Peerless and a bunch of others for less cash then many other lower quality products. I think it just makes sense!

I looked at the HAT stuff myself. It's a little too unproven for me. So I choose a driver with some history.

Has anybody treid the RE XXX 6.5 Components??

They look real nice on thier website, specs look good, but i'd like to hear them first. Specs don't list power rating, is that good?

I seached for price and found a U.S. website that listed $722.00, so would that mean about 1,000.00 canadian?

i have one serious recommendation:
SEAS LOTUS.
research it, and if possible at all, find a competitor with them to listen to.
diymobileaudio has alot of fans and users.
mobilesq is an authorised seller.
reegards,
Marco

Give them some power and the midbass is fantastic. There are better sounding midrange's out there by far though. These have the potential to make a very good midbass in a 3-way system.

Agreed, strong midbass but the midrange is kinda ehhhhh. And the tweet is no good IMO didnt like the sound at ALL.

I agree with marco check out the sea lotus, since you listed the MB quart Q's im guessing u like hard dome tweets, and u mentioned you like the K2p's.

I sat go check out some dls iridiums, they sound very nice. I want to suggest Rainbow Germaniums as well but i think there mid is past ur mounting depth.

Good Luck
