How loud should a my Type-X 6.5's and a 10w3v3 be?
 

Hello all,

I'm not the smartest guy when it comes to car audio... I'm the kind who tries to do his research, but in the end I leave it up to the install guys to tweak my system after I've purchased what I think is good stuff.

I've got the Clarion DXZ765MP deck, an Alpine MRV-F345 powering two 6.5" Type-X's in front (with no back speakers yet - I was told my rears were 6.5's but they're 6x9's so those are going in soon), and a JL Audio E1200 powering my 10w3v3. Compared to my old car and how much I paid (it was 4 Type-R's simply running off the deck) I'm disappointed with this system. It sounds good, but I guess I was expecting more... it doesn't feel like 75W from each speaker. How much more will two 6x9's add? Also, my sub is barely noticeable... when I turn everything off except for the sub, I can barely hear it - shouldn't it be louder? Did the install guys not boost it loud enough, or do I need another sub to truly feel it? I'm wondering if I should go back and have the installers tweak things again...

Any help would be appreciated!

By the way, I'm after SQ, not just pounding... but I do like it loud. If my doors are rattling a bit do I need some Dynamat stuff? And I'm driving a 2002 Civic Coupe.

If you aren't getting the amount of bass that pleases you, you can try turning the gain up on your amplifier or turning up the subwoofer output on your deck. Don't turn your gain too high or you'll run in to clipping issues. As for the door speakers, you could try increasing the gain there as well. Honestly, the best thing you could do it play with settings yourself. You car should be tuned to how YOU want to hear it and not the installers.

ive got the type X 6.5 comps and they should get loud without ANY trouble.
mine are running off of 40 watts rms and its loud enough that i need to upgrade my sub/amp.

you can also use the ear method, although that can be tough to hear mild clipping.
to tune gains by ear you will need some test tones, you can find them at several sites, usually i use 1000hz for components.

Thanks for the replies... my X's can get loud, but I have to turn my deck up pretty high - to about 25 (max volume is 33 I think) - to get them there. It seems not much happens up to about 20, and then from there the volume increases quite a bit. Something just doesn't seem right.

I called Soundsaround and although they didn't admit to anything, they did say to come in and they'd solve any issues I have with the amp and sub combo. I think I'll look at trying to get the 2 ohm and maybe an amp upgrade.

My 2 cents. Bridge the amp put all the power to those front Alpine's and then run a pair of 6x9 off deck power as they are only really for the rear passengers to listen to. This should increase volume and you should have plenty of power including more head room.

x2... although I'd personally run no rears at all since I almost never have backseat passengers. It sounds more like the gains/system arent set up correctly to me.

I thought about leaving the backs out, but I've found that I'm one that actually likes having that back fill. I have a pair of Type-R 6x9's for the back (not yet put in) and the X's for the front... having them run off of 75Wx4 should be good. I found a good tutorial on how to adjust the gain and going to try play with that.

i have the same amp and type x seperates. that amp can only be bridged into 3 channels however the type x crossovers are biampable :smilie_da

And don,t forget that a clean sounding system can sound like its not as loud bad system at the same even higher volumes . With a badly tuned system the peaks can make it sound way louder than it really is esspecialy in the mids and highs .
