How to make old Music sound good???

OK,
I've been challenged. Here are the problems,
Brand new ford fiesta with the top of the line stereo, wants it to "punch hard". Oh and he doesn't want to sacrifice trunk space, so the smaller the better. So we need to change the "high level" to Low level, and he wants it to sound like the old Pioneer Truck riders. I don't even know if they sounded any good??? For the price and the music we listened too they were loud, but I can't remember if they sounded any good???
Anyhow...
Help...any ideas, and no offence, if you don't know what Pioneer Truck riders are, I don't know if you can help.
I've tried to explain that the "old school sound" can't be duplicated because recordings are different, equipment is different, and that loud does not = "sound better"...Am I missing something???

It sounds to me like he just wants a couple tens in a sealed box to listen to his old motley crue albums. What I would probably do is get everything wired up and let him try out an average set up. After that just go from there.

All wired up,
and he is not happy with anything we've tried so far. Punch...ee bass??? Did Montley Crue have punchee (man I hate that word)bass, I thought it was all snare, and vince neils screechy voice. He wants more KLF and Technotronic type bass late 80s early 90s rap bass. Can this be achieved with a system and an in-line converter???

Is the bass being cut off at higher volumes like in a Bose system or factory infinity system? If that's the case then Audiocontrol's LC2i might be in order.

Bill I realize space is a factor, make a vented enclosure tuned to 40 Hz. I've had that similar situation happen to me and going with that box design made my customer happy.

I tuned the port to 45hz in a .66 cuft box, and then sealed off the port to make it sealed, it sounded better sealed. The FS of the sub is 45hz and .66cuft is the sealed recomended enclosure. The recomended enclosure size for the port box is 1 cuft. We're going to try a different sub, although we tried a alpine type r 12 in a ported box (sounded really bad), and he likes the jl audio 15 (old school w1) the best. I just can't seem to find that really punch-y bass that he likes. I am trying to tell him it can't be done on a factory system with cheap line converters??? and to top it off, how to you set everything up, when he listens to "David Getta" (whoever this guy is), and then wants it to perform the same way with technotronic....I don't know how to make this guy happy?

Up the power to the midbass in the doors and add a pair of bass shakers to the front seats. They give you a tactile 'hit' that mimicks a really punchy sub. Very good way to increase the impact of the bass without it overpowering the top end.

I would also move to a vented 10" sub.

Could also replace the LOCs with an AC LCQ-1. They retail for about $200 and have some basic EQ so you can jam the 60-80hz region to get the 'punch' up.

I used to sell a tonne of the Truck Riders back in the day. They didn't have much low end, mostly 50hz+stuff. I don't think the woofer even had an inductor on it. :retard:

I had these truck riders appart, many many years ago, and if I remember right, they had a little cross over to the tweet, and that is it. I ran my alphasonic amp on them, full range, and they did pound, but I can't remember if they actually sounded good. We live in this bubble, that says that our way was the best way, and I am starting to learn that this new stuff is OK. I constantly tell stories about the old days, but I have made some very nice sounding stuff in the past 5 years, and "montley crue" sounded bad in 1985, and they still sound bad....
