I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with IDQ (version 2) subwoofers in free-air setups. I know it is not recommended by Image Dynamics, however I've seen a few cars using this type of setup. I have a single IDQ 15v2.

Just looking to possibly conserve trunk space, however the 1.4 cuft sealed recommendation from ID certainly would not be bad at all. I actually think it'll be pretty hard to make a box that small for a 15. I'm not too concerned about SPL output. The sub will receive around 300 watts RMS from an Xtant 603x.

Winter sucks, hang in there!

My memory is vague on this, but one of the rules of thumb is that the volume of your trunk should not be 3 x greater then the VAS of your driver............ I think?!?! It's something like that. Been a while since I looked into this so I may be wrong. I don't think you will have any issues though....... as long as your not planning on beating the hell out of the driver. If one driver isn't working with that rule of thumb, then two will work for sure. Mark Bruno is running two Image Dynamics IDW 15" free air off the rear deck of his Jetta without any issues.

Close Tom...the rule is to have true ib, you have to have 3x the vas, otherwise you just have a really big sealed box. But, as for the id 15", i have no idea...never used one.

Yes paul, but since we cant all build walls for a single 10" driver, its generally accepted that you get ib like qualitys with 3x the vas. And i thought you were a "real application" kind of guy...

Uhmmmmmmmm, actually, that's what I think I said in a convoluted way...... 3x the driver VAS. I'm glad I'm old so I can pre-qualify my comments now Anyways, I'm with that ***** Paul-eee......... what he said is right.
